Jerking, Hesitation, OR acceleration delay during hard throttling

Hi Guys,

Anyone has the experience above ?

Search the forum but mostly during slow on moving off jerking.


I experienced this from the past 2 days after I had my exhaust change ( muffler), when I floor my throttle I had this hesitation or sudden drop in RPM at range 5000 to 6000 and back in power before switching to 6th gear.( this only happened in 5th gear.)

What may be the cause?

My ride 630i 2009

these are questions you may consider asking yourself too & also try to seek workshop's opinions & trouble shoot:

spark plugs - when were they changed
ignition coils - wear & tear?
fuel injectors - wear & tear?
air mass sensor in engine bay
are you running any other piggy back ecu? - may need to be remapped
fuel pump - wear & tear?

i guess 630i signs of wear & tear should start surfacing as they are mostly more than 6 years old now.

PS - opinions above may not be accurate but some of them were what i faced similarly as you did. there's no 1 spot on solution, normally 1 leads to another Good Luck buddy!

What do you mean by "exhaust change"? Muff or muff + decat + headers?

But this only happened 2 days ago after I change my exhuast muffler. I'm still on stock ecu hence was thinking to get it remap.

Hi Kenn,

Just change my exhuast muffler on sat and was eager to clear the carbon , realise this problem as soon as I hit 5th gear.

Been monitoring this issue for the past week .. the strange thing is , during normal acceleration transmission switch gear without issue till 6 gear .. jerk only happend when hard acceleration when switch gear between 4th to 5th and when I push further, transmission failure pop out! but after re-starting the car , everthing back to normal ..

Anyone encounter this before ?

Was quoted by workshop 5-6k for dismantling gearbox and replace parts.when they cannot be sure of what needs to be change, make sense?

If you use the steptronics instead - still got same problem ?

Yea...I keep asking so how would I know what they change and was told subjective!!

Was told maybe gearbox inside leaking la...blah..blah...gear cannot synchronize ...so I ask will changing solenoid solve the problem...ans: no ideal but can tell me easily cost me 5-6k

Do a search for gearbox issues ..... Some bros fixed similar issues for cheaper.

Yea have been looking in that direction for the past and all seem to be solenoid issue..but was told byworkshop it may not be that simple hence not jumping into repair yet..
