My opinion is if you get it for below $80k then considered good deal.

Hi , looking at the high mileage is prompt to have gear box change Liao ...! Standby 6k to 10 k to get it fix .

Wow is that for real Ricky? Is this a problem specific to 523i or generally for all Beemers at this mileage? I have asked for an STA report - will this show up in that?

alternatively, $3.5k- $4k+ to overhaul the gearbox when the gearbox problem surface

not necessary la, depends on your luck (whether previous owner got maintain or not)
i changed my atf every 40k and the box last 170k and still counting

a VERY GOOD price!!
provided with a reasonable with good trade-in..
Cos i bought mine June 2007 @ 96k last Sept.

BTW i mentioned Trade-in.
i suppose that a good deal also depends on how much you sells your previous ride.
