Hi...

Maybe already known to many, just thought to share this in case.....
I came across adverts on BMW (@ Giant) and Shell (@ NTUC) Engine Oils in last week's local papers.

When I visited Giant, there is actually another brand "Schnell" which turns out to be a lot cheaper!
Supposedly "Made in Germany" and @

The oil for BMW is appealing and it's S$48.00 for 4 bottles of 1L. Oh

Re: Just Sharing: Maybe good price for Engine Oils

For the benefit of the bros and sis here, they are SAE 5W-40 and LL-98. Date shown on the bottles I saw are April 2013. I presume that's manufacture date and not expiry date. But they are like Hello Kittys... Selling out fast. More than 3/4 of the shelf empty when I was there this afternoon.

Parkway Giant, 1/4 shelf left. If you spend $250 in 3 receipts you can redeem for an aunty trolley bag for groceries at the L1 Info counter. Anyway, all Giants are supposed to be selling the BMW oil.

Re: Just Sharing: Maybe good price for Engine Oils

I risk being picky or overly theoretical here...this xW-xx is just a very basic SAE rating.
Nowadays, many will say to look at more/other ratings than just that.

That said, the "Carlube" you mentioned is even cheaper!! Wow...
I suppose if user really changes every 5,000km thereabouts or less, with no track or heavy spirited driving...no problem lah! Like using higher priced oil for every 8,000km to 10,000km or "fresh" every half of that eh?

Ok...thanks.
Comment already made though, but corrections and admonishments welcome.

Don't worry, the whole point of a forum is to have constructive discussions.

Whether it is Carlube or BMW LL-98, do it with eyes wide open. I strongly advise doing your own research or call up the dealers to ask. Some sources say BMW LL-98 is ok for some engines eg. M43TU, M52TU, M73, N73/74 and W10 but newer engines may need LL-01/04. End of the day, whoever decides uses whatever oils they choose at own risk.

If there is one thing I learnt from master Rod, always trust the engineering. It is the people who don't have enough knowledge who screw up the car.
