lower control arm

Hi, I just changed my lower control arms on my e90. The feel was great however I'm experiencing vibration on my steering wheel when I hit around 110km/h and above.
Anyone experience this after changing control arm ?
I was thinking could it be wheel balancing issue ? Before changing control arm only slight virbration if I'm not wrong

I just want to make sure changing control arm will not cause vibration....
Thanks

Hi xeom,

i've changed it before on my previous previous ride and there wasn't any vibration, think is better you go do a 4 wheel alignment and if possible do a high speed balancing as well........consult the wheel balancing chief and see what they say...

cheers

Re: lower control arm

It is an alignment issue. Any change of alignment issues like camber, toes, you need to do alignment.

Re: lower control arm

quick questions

a. is it necessary to change the whole control arm or the bushing is "good enough" liao

b. should change front and back or front is "good enough" liao since front has more movements from steering

thanks!

The bush can't be removed. So, need to change whole thing.

Once the bush wear off, it will make konk konk sound. If you can bear with it, u can live with it loh.

Re: lower control arm

Question on front vs rear, at times depend on whether your coilovers have camber plates........ cause if you have camber, then the effect of control arms is not as pronounced.

Re: lower control arm

using kw v1 coilover for e90. no camber plates.

Re: lower control arm

Lower arm control bush can be removed and replaced. It need to be press fitted but its not worthwhile to change the bush as the other side (ball joint) maybe wearing out as well.

I don't think the bush is sold as separate item.

Alignment was done right after the changed of control arm...
So likely wheel balancing issue ?

I was thinking need to do high speed balancing or normal balancing ?
Any place to recommend ? My last balancing was not too long ago... think the most 3-4 months back at leong seng...

Re: lower control arm

question: why would changing the control arm affect the balance of the wheel? it's not like the TS changed wheels...

Re: lower control arm

I was told by PML that the bush can be replaced separately.

But I was recommended to change the whole arm by a sponsor workshop for the reason given above

meaning to say before changed the lower arm when you travel at 110km your steering vibrates? if so then is high speed balancing............same issue as Cupholders's Z4 after high speed balancing no more vibrating...

cheers

Re: lower control arm

Just thought I would share so that anyone who encounter this issue might benefit from it.

1) Went to do high speed balancing on front tyres only cos rear tyres going to change soon so no pt doing.
Result : vibration on steering wheel was gone but chassis still vibrating when hitting speed above 110 kph. Can felt it from driver seat.

2) Changed rear tyres with normal balancing.
Result: No more vibration on chassis. Issue resolved :)

Sorry for OT
Im not very good on technical aspect on cars, so I would like to ask, what was the reason for you to change your lower control arms? Im driving E90 as well, its 3.5 yrs so i am concerned what are the parts that I should look to change.

Thanks in advance
