hey bros, i need some advice. i just bought a 330ci smg and i wana fix up m3 bodykit..is it recommanded? and if i were to fix them how much would the total cost be roughly?

Re: m3 body kit

A genuine M3 bodykit will not fit your coupe. The front and rear fenders are wider than your car. If you really want the original M3 bodykit, you will also need to buy the front fender and modify your rear fender for the original M3 front and rear bumpers to fit. Side skirts will fit without problems.

There are replica M3 front bumpers (M3 CSL look and normal M3 look) that are made to fit a coupe. Maybe you should look into that. No need to modify your front fender. I do not know of any replica rear M3 bumper. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Another issue with an M3 rear bumper is, even if you do major surgery to widen your rear fenders to fit an M3 bumper, you still have to find a way to fit an M3 exhaust (quad pipes) onto you coupe. To fit an original M3 exhaust, you will need to cut away your spare wheel well to make space for the rear mufflers. If you just want the look of quad pipes, you will still need to custom fabricate an exhaust.

My advice: forget the M3 bodykit and get an Mtech kit instead. Save the hassle of cutting up your car and save you the embarrassment when people look at your brakes, your meter cluster, your gear console, your seats, your steering wheel, your rear view mirror...etc and immediately know it's a fake M3.

The Mtech kit with CSL-style addon splitters, Vorsteiner bonnet and CSL replica bootlid:

Re: m3 body kit

sorry i forgot to add on, actually im driving a cabriolet..does it make a difference? and thanks chicken, because i was initially thinking of overhauling my car to a fully m3 look-a-like(inclusive of the brakes, meter cluster, gear console, seats, steering wheel, rear view mirror, like what you mentioned). but i feel that it would definately cost a bomb..so i was deciding maybe i can heed your advice on doing up with Mtech kit. I'm a newbie in this so may i ask how much would it roughly cost and the time needed etc?

If you're looking at everything to be original, then u're looking at leat 30 grand.

Re: m3 body kit

You mean the one ChickenBackside posted?

The bonnet and trunk would set you back about 4 grand, to be safe ( cause i don't know the exact prices). The Mtech II kit would be about 3 grand or slightly less?.

Ahhh. I think I know which you you bought!

This one right?

If this is the one you bought, you ALREADY have the Mtech kit. To achieve the same look as the coupe above, you basically need to do a few things:

1) Vorsteiner bonnet. Dunno how much it is now. I bought mine for $2550 1 year ago.
2) Replica CSL bootlid. Should be around $1k
3) Some kind of addon for the Mtech bumper, a few hundred dollars
4) 19" wheels, depends on your needs and budget, can range from $2+k to more than $10k
5) Lower your car. Again depends on your needs and budget Can range from a few hundred dolars for springs alone to fully adjustable coilovers at around $3k.

Here's another example of a well-modded coupe. This is FiftyFive's car. He has Mtech kit with ACS front splitter addon, PSS9 coilovers and 19" Autoart rims:

Re: m3 body kit

ahh just a few 'fins' on the bonnet cost 2-3k..*faints* lol..that was the first thing i was thinking to change and the most exp one too.. :X hey chicken how did you guess so right? lol thats the exact one i bought :X anyway how you guys think of the colour? cause i was thinking of changing colour of the car but what if i change the bonnet?

Re: m3 body kit

hey ro1,

congrats on the new ride, and the other ride as well ;-)
imo silver grey is a nice color, that is the color for the M3 CSL.
i would leave it, and if your getting the vorsteiner bonnet, you may wanna paint it silver grey but leave the vents in CF.

best wishes,

zul

Actually it's not just fins. It's a whole bonnet replacement made of carbon fibre. Besides the vents, there is also the M3 power buldge in the middle of the bonnet. The main advantages for the bonnet is weight savings. Your original bonnet is around 48kg. The Vorsteiner bonnet is about 10kg.

The bonnet comes unsprayed, so you can spray it to any colour you want. In your case, you can spary it to silver grey and leave the vents unpainted to reveal the carbon fibre like eaurouge_spa suggested. Most of us who have it do it this way.

You should keep your original bonnet if you do decide to go for the Vorstiener bonnet. When you want to sell your car, you can sell the Vorstienr bonnet and put back your original bonnet and recover some money.

I think the colour is very nice. Classy. But if you really don't like it, it's easily done.

Congrats on your purchase! It's definitely one of the nicer ones around. I saw this car just before you bought it and I was itchy to buy it too.

If I were you, I'd get some 19" rims first. That would transform your car most dramatically...

Re: m3 body kit

haa thanks i love my new ride too.
btw what is m3 CSL? :X
why does the CSL bonnet has more vents compared to the vorsteiner bonnet? it seems that the a/m pic's with maroon bonnet is nicer then the bottom one..
also i didn't really get the part which you guys say leave the vents unpainted..where is that part actually?
changing of 19" or the bonnet is the same price 2k+++ right? which is a better choice? personally if i change my rims my dad will smack me, cause he knows that the rims has been changed previously from the original and he thinks that its sporty enough (not for me :X) btw if i were to change a 19" or 20"(if it is even possible for a 20" lol) rims, would they trade in my current(i think 18"), and how much would i have to top up roughly?
sorry guys im really a newbie in these, apologies for asking so much :p

This is an example of painting the bonnet white while leaving the vents unpainted:

$2k+ for 19" wheels can only get you Taiwanese rims or replica rims with non-premium tyres. If you go for premium rims and tyres, it definitely won't be $2k+. It really depends on your taste, needs and budget. Can go above $10k.

20" is definitely possible. Many people in the US are running it. Yes they would take in your rims and tyres. My guess is, they will be worth around $500.

Re: m3 body kit

wow that bonnet looks very good..
my tires worth so less? :S
anyway i dont really understand what premium rims and tyres are..and whats the diff for a taiwanese rims or relica rims? and non-premium tyres?
m3 CSL is the standand m3 or different version? im not very familar with the m3 ver. please enlighten me ;P

Non premium rims: Taiwanese brand Privat $350 a piece

Replica rims come from companies that make copies of original BMW, Hamann, Breyton, BBS...etc. These companies are usually Taiwanese or Italian. Quality is obviously not as good as the original items. But cheap. Usually $300-400 per rim for 19"

Non premium tyres: Dunlop Sportmaxx, $320 a piece
Premium tyres: Michelin PS2, $700 a piece

Re: m3 body kit

The Splitters in the 1st photo is called Clubsport Splitters, had them on my previous bumper before changing to the CSL bumper! :)
