Mechanical watches servicing- agent vs. alternative - opinion

anyone here have experience or opinion on going to independent watch service shop vs, agent on out of warranty simple mech movement watch?
agent quoted close $1K for overhaul service and polishing on my cheap daily wear 10 year old tank francaise cartier watch. (was about $600 few years back for same service)

i still can't get over the quote of $1K for overhaul service and polishing. when we are not taking complicated movement in chrono or complication of Patek blah blah blah

thinking might as well throw into the safe and put on others or invest the 1K into new model..

anyone know a good reliable watch service outfit?
.. i found JW watch in International Plaza.. charges much less. any experience with them?

thks for reading..and appreciate your input..

I have used JW when they were at Great Eastern Building. Quite professional.

Can also try

~ PNG Watches (moved to Peace Centre or Paradiz)
~ Barry at Collectors' Haven (Balmoral's VIP Hotel)
~ Bosman at Visiotime (Republic Plaza, HP 8288 3035 / 9637 3128)

Me too uses JW and Barry... Both are professional and charge reasonably.

Due to the popularity and long queue at JW, its quite a norm to put your watch there for months...

PS. Please always seek 2nd opinion. Sent a quartz tank to Taka Cartier cos watch stopped, tot battery dead. Shop told me need over haul, etc... Quoted me $1500... I took my watch back... Went to JW immediately, checked and changed a new battery... Watch is back to live... Damage : $30...

for me, was quoted about $700 for overhaul servicing and polish for rolex agent about 5 weeks, heard from others that it's about $300~ at katong complex,
but honestly, i'm pretty scared sending it there for servicing, (stories like how they would exchange parts of your watch with theirs) hahahah
