Motul 300v for engine oil??

Evening bros,

As my warranty is entering the last year, I am starting to get backside itchy...

I came from using the Motul 300v on my previous car, and is wondering if this oil is good (or harmful) for our engine.

I am looking at using the Motul 300v 5w30 for the car...

Based on some other websites, they are saying that it is in fact better than castrol..

Any opinions?

Regards,
Jeremy

Motul is 8100 for bmw LL01 or LL04?

I used pennzoil ultra and thought it feels better than the castrol 0w-30 and 5w-30...

No matter what is the butt feel, 0-30/5-30 must have HTHS > 3.5. Otherwise, you might have to do a mid life oil change.

How much mileage will that be? I am doing a 8k oil change interval at the moment on whatever PML / MA is putting into my car... What do they use btw?

8k km could be a stretch. You might need to monitor it after 5k km.

Here's the specs for the 5w30 ........

2 cents of some random thoughts ..... One can see immediately that -

- Viscosity is thin at the higher temp outside of what the N20 is speced for
- TBN is low so forget about it doing 8k without shearing

Being that the N20 is turbo charged ...... Not very optimistic about it holding up though double ester tech etc is quite impressive on paper.

What if I use 10w40?

TNB is higher but no where close to oils that meets LL01 specs.

CST@100 is thick .... about 15% over specs.

Same thing goes for when the oil is cold - takes a bit more time for it to be pumped up which means the engine might take some beating at cold crank before the oil can reach the moving parts .......

So in this case I can only use Motul 8100? That supposedly meets the LL04 specs?

LL04 specs are meant for regions with really low level of sulphur in the petrol e.g EU.

In Singapore - we have a very high level of sulphur in our petrol which really give any low TBN EOs a tough time time ...... One of the reasons why the LL01 EOs exist and is recommended by BMW for regional areas with high sulphur content in fuels.

I have compiled some specs...

So how do I read this? higher better??

disregard the header, all are 5w-30

Re: Motul 300v for engine oil??

TBN and HTHS - higher is better.

Cst@100 should be about 12.2
Cst@40 should be about 65

FYI - LL01 EOs typically have a TBN of 11-12 .....

Does it mean that we can only use LL-01 or LL01FE oil only?

Re: Motul 300v for engine oil??

Hi ...

Just a 2 cent contribution ...

Initially I was with German Castrol till 40000 then Mobil one then Bmw original then liquid moly then motul 300v twice ...

Of course pml shell helix or whatever crap ....

I m on a n 55 engine n can feel l moly n Mobil one rough ... shell helix via pml is useless .... German Castrol is lighter ....

Comments : I personally would go for German Castrol n or motul 300v.

What they talk about ll or ll01 ll04 I dun really care ....

The important thing is how regular u change oil. If cost is a factor Mobil one is good.
If wacking car hard maybe motul 300v.

Might try Amsoil in time to come.

Just sharing my butt feel n my thinking that engine oil is not too big deal to lose hair thinking what to use.
Because 10 years for our car only, mine 3year vanos recall, they strip the engine n check n all in good condition....
I change oil at every 6~7000...

German castrol 20 , motul 300v 25 Mobil one 15

Then will HV questions on ester etc ... syntenic blar blar which again how hard you redline your car ...

So dun worry any recommended oil on Bmw manual will do.

.

Can I confirm that PML is using shell helix? Tot they use the bmw one...

And the BMW one is actually from Castrol right?

So bottom line, if I am going to use motul 300v, 8000km oil change is too long?

Re: Motul 300v for engine oil??

Bmw replaced Castrol with Shell as the recommended oil supplier last year.

Personally - amongst all of the oil I drained and played around with - Used Shell helix has a stench that is quite distinct......

No offence to any site sponsor n personal taste only...

Pml I think last year started with shell helix ... one word sucks n sucks big time... cos I dun like the feeling.
Munich still has German Castrol. Codeworkz also have. Abit expensive but maybe good to use if Amsoil full ester, motul 300v too expensive.
Penzoil ultra not yet tried.

I m not hardcore guy ... so usually if u go to bobistheoil forum...
There is talk of ester oil to be change much earlier than others... dunno what say moisture in oil... blar blar blar ...

I change oil 6~7000 so dun really care.

Impt is u try n u like the oil.

Not say I say this good u have to follow ... try n decide yourself ...

Maybe like I read my meat Yr poison... Yr poison others meat...

Haha

Re: Motul 300v for engine oil??

Red line 5w-30 has most of the spec of LL01FE:
@ 40c: 71
HTHS: 3.7
TBN: 10
