Munich Adoption

Just wondering if any M owners here have bought a PI car and got their rides adopted by Munich? If so, please kindly share your experience and whether it's worth doing.

Re: Munich Adoption

I had checked on adoption and bought from PI. But now after hearing many service and warranty horror stories and handling of accidents / losses, if u want the Munich peace of mind, just buy from them, dont think the adoption actually gives any of the real benefits of buying form them. If you compare the net price difference if u were to buy from Munich, or buy from pi and go for adoption - buying from Munich would be more cost effective.

Re: Munich Adoption

E92 M3 Competition Spec with OMV 80k++ from PI costs $330k

Munich costs $410k with 5 yrs warrenty and parts/servicing.

Adoption fee $30k

BUT back in 2009, PML adopted PI M3s for just $10k (so i hear from friends)

Re: Munich Adoption

For peace of mind n if your wallet allows, go for Munich.
Really good service

However PI cars w warrenty from MBM or KBS should not be ruled out too.
Both established workshops n positive feedback.

Re: Munich Adoption

Guys, thanks for the response so far. I would have gone Munich if not for the some what ridiculous price quoted for a limited frozen grey edition. Eventually, i saved about $80k buying PI from my brother's company (Sunauto). I was kinda smitten with the colour. A regular coloured M3 would have cost a lot less. M3 has very good reliability so i am not too worried about repairs. My car came with PI warranty with MBM, but i doubt i would have any luck when the need to claim warranty arises. Anyway, i am considering adoption mainly for resale purpose. It's probably easier to sell with an adoption in place later on. My next M car will certainly be from Munich.

Why is that so?

I have heard bad things about it from frens. This is an open forum, so i don't want to say things that i can't substantiate in case it gets messy. Anyway, i will be heading in to MBM soon for a checkup and potential warranty claim. If they try to f*** me around, i will be sure to share it here.

Any news on your experience?

Re: Munich Adoption

As far as I understand, the adoption fee of $30K is just to get the "permit" to regularly service your car with Munich. You still need to pay for every servicing as compared if you buy your ride direct from Munich, they service it free for you for 5 yrs. Of cos, it comes with a higher price tag for more than $30K.

Once adopted, so if there is anything wrong with your ride, Munich will charge you additional for repairs and parts replacement (if any) => In other words, it is not a warranty. Any outside workshop that knows how to repair BMW cars can do it also. Parts can be imported or purchase from the local stockist.

Whereas when your PI car is covered with warranty with outside workshops, any problem with the ride except for fair wear and tear consumable items, it is repaired and replaced free of charge => This is a warranty.

So I don't see why is there a need for adoption in any case.

Re: Munich Adoption

Based on what I had read so far I also feel there is no need to pay the adoption fee. 30k can pay for alot of repair already. Unless there is some problem with your car outside workshop cannot repair?

Have not had time to visit them yet. My steering is giving some noise when turning right if i apply at least 3/4 lock.

So far my warranty with MBM still ok. Except for the long waiting time, the service is general good.

Glad to hear that :) When i visited them for a paid repair for my wife's 130i, their service was rather good and prompt. Definitely much better than damn PML.

What you said is definitely true and my point exactly! Adoption is on my mind for the sole purpose of making the car look more attractive when the time comes to sell. I definitely won't be looking at adoption in the near future. At this point of the car's life cycle, i am quite confident on the various workshops' ability to service/repair the car. Besides, E9x M3 is a pretty reliable car.

The $80k i saved buying from PI would pretty much allow me to repair the whole car if need be, not that i am looking forward to it :D

Re: Munich Adoption

Took the car in to MBM yesterday. Ended up the issue wasn't the steering. It was the rear differential oil needing replacement. Paid for the oil change and it was all good. No chance to sample their warranty claim experience, but as a paying customer, i am very pleased with the service.

Bro, I wouldn't worry too much. I think the potential buyer would appreciate more if you sell $30K lower than agent's car than for you to pay for adoption to try sell the car at higher price.

I'm having the noise as well when turning. It sounds like something rubbing at the rear wheels when turning? Rear diffierential oil prob as well? Ride is merely 15K km...

I was told that the oil should be changed every 5K km. My mileage now is 9K+. Even after the oil change, the sound did not go away 100%. The noise dropped like 80% right after the change, but is dropping gradually now. Every morning when i drive the car, i do a few rounds at the drop off point at my estate, kinda like some dumb shit going round and round just to monitor the noise. It does seem to get better and not bothering me now. Will update again on this.

I can tell you its the way you run-in / drive the car. I never had a single issue with my differential cause I ran in my car at 99 bends. TIGHT CORNERS BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT. You have to get the differentials to work on tight corners. You dont have to drive fast to do this. Just get your speed up and do some tight turns. It will loosen up the differential.

Those of you having problems I recommend a fresh rear differential oil change and perform the below.

Upon differential installation, and fluid top off, proceed to drive vehicle to a controlled
area where several circles/figure eights can be performed. Drive vehicle (at idle speed) in
20 figure eights, full lock to full lock. Then drive (at idle speed) in 20 full lock circles
left, 20 full lock circles right.

Should solve your problem. I know 2 people who tried it and it went away. Give it a try!
