Since they're OEM fitters of BMW leather....well..at least they used to be.

What ride is yours?

why is it called MW leather seats? I got nothing to do with it :whattheh:

Ryan what do you mean they are the OEM fitters of BMW. Aren't the BMW leather seats done up in Germany or whereever the car was made?

This is where a lot of people doesn't know. For the 318i Exlusive model, the leather seats are installed by jackspeed, if otherwise, by some local fitter.

Only the recent 318i Sport edition Montana leather is factory fitted. YOu will notice that the leather grade is different from the Exclusive model.

This is comfirmed by an PML agent during the BMW expo.

jaskin,

Montana leather = factory fitted.
Chameleon leather = locally fitted (I'm 80% sure).

The recent 318i Exclusive is Chameleon leather; the 318i Sports is Montana leather. 320/325/330 sedans, all coupes and all convertibles should be default Montana.

(During the 25th Anniv promo, they actually sold the 320i Exclusive with CHAMELEON leather!!! I wonder how many people actually knew the difference...)

Chameleon leather meaning leather from the Chameleon? No right?
BMW Singapore's quite sneaky.

The above is absolutely correct. In the typical BMW range, the best leather grade available is the Nappa leather , next is the Montana and then finally the Chameleon grade. Typically, Nappa is used in the 7 series, Montanna is is for 5 series and Chameleon is rused in 3 series.

Unlike the 3 series exclusive, the recent 3 series Sport edition actually uses the more superior leather - the Montanna - which is typically for the 5 series.

Hi guys,

Sorry dont mean to interupt but since u guys talking about 'skins' can i ask where to buy the DIY type of leather and dashboard cleaner...i cheapskate lah wanna do myself.... :argue: hee hee

thanks man....

redas,

you can consider the BMW leather cleaner, it's a bottle + some sponges + some pieces of cleaning paper. You can get it from their parts dept. I DIY all the time.

MYSTIC,

After much investigation, we are all correct. What type of leather will depend on what was ordered. The simplest way to check if it's factory fitted or locally fitted is to take out the rear lower bench seat, and if it's factory fitted, it would (1) look very neat, and (2) would have "SETON, S.A" tagged on the piece of leather. I presume S.A = South Africa.

Hope that helps.

aye thanks, what about the rubber-like dashboard, can i use cloth and water?

heading down to Alexandra this weekend....

This thread is very interesting and I am pissed. I was told by the sales staff that Cham leather (the lowest grade) is factory fitted and not locally.....!!!

Are you sure it is locally fitted.
Also, how does one remove the rear lower bench? I want to check whether my seats are locally fitted or not.

Mine is a 320i and no special edition.

mingboy,

320i non-special edition should be factory fitted montana leather. I sat in 6 3-series today (colleagues/friends), and there is a noticeable difference between 318i chameleon leather and the 320i montana leather.

Don't sweat too much over it.

I'm just pissed off that in order for them to reduce prices for the 25th anniv promo, I suspect that they ordered it without factory leather, and fitted it locally.

Can anyone who has bought the 320i during the 25th Anniv Special promo confirm if they got the interior light package, i.e., the footwell lights and the rear separate reading lamps?

Emiffy, do you mean the Expo 2004 version?

Cos I just took delivery of a 320i and yes it does come with the light package.

hi em,

yeah - the way they cut corners is amazing... but what I can say from my point of view is that the packages they have provided to clear the 318s are really quite good and look good too...clear white lites, chrome lining..., nice steering wheel, blah blah.
