My issues with my new E90

Hi guys,

got a few issues that hopefully you guys can help identify them. I went down to PML for several times already and each time, they either claim it is normally or cannot detect the issue. If you guys have come across these issues and have resolved it somehow, I would rather trust the wisdom of fellow brothers than those SA. My car has so far clocked only 1500km since a month ago I took possession.

1) Sudden high revs but no power
have you guys encountered this? Occassionally, while traveling slowly up slope with rpm hovering around 1200rpm, it will sometimes rev up to 2500+ but the car has no power. But a stop after this will restore power.

2) When slow crawling amidst heavy traffic, sometimes you feel as if the clutch did not disengage properly when you ease off the gas pedal. It is like doing some engine braking while downshifting like that

3) During idle, I can hear some flapping/tapping kind of sound from engine. Sometimes very loud but sometimes it is quite muffled. But when I depress the gas pedal, you can hear the engine rev ok and that noise disappears.

The result of all these is that the car is not pleasant to drive slowly, especially during heavy traffic which unfortunately is becoming a staple in our roads.

Thanks,
Shaun

Re: My issues with my new E90

obviously you have major transmission issues. I will go to them and scream FARK until they change my transmission. After that we'll deal with your tappets issue.

Re: My issues with my new E90

I will bang table or bang their balls. Either way, I will bang. Not acceptabe.

Ans: You going upslope with engine revving at 1200rpm? Thats like not stepping much on the gas pedal. Have u tried flooring the bugger when this happens?

2) When slow crawling amidst heavy traffic, sometimes you feel as if the clutch did not disengage properly when you ease off the gas pedal. It is like doing some engine braking while downshifting like that.

Ans: I think its pretty normal, even my previous civic FD also had the same issues.

3) During idle, I can hear some flapping/tapping kind of sound from engine. Sometimes very loud but sometimes it is quite muffled. But when I depress the gas pedal, you can hear the engine rev ok and that noise disappears.

Ans: I think the 320 engine has this tapping sound. similiar to like those diesel engines right? I think its pretty normal ya. heehee

Ok but for your above problems, you can go to PML, talk to the service advisor nicely and get him to go for a test ride with you to bring out these problems. I understand it maybe fustrating at times but try to talk to them nicely and get them to understand your problems. sometimes it helps. It works for me so I don see why it should not for you also. :)

Re: My issues with my new E90

The first complaint sounds like just a kickdown.

Re: My issues with my new E90

Thanks guys for the input. I think I may have been too light on the gas pedal. Since coming over from my previous Jap ride, got a lot of adjustment issue with it. I will certainly take the civic approach to talk to them until no choice then bang tables. However, I seriously do not know what is expected. How does a normal engine sounds like by the way? Anyhow, the SA told me the tapping sound comes from the valvetronics. No idea here. These are just two of most concerned issues: engine + transmission. The rest I can turn a blind eye until buah tahan :)

Re: My issues with my new E90

The simplest way might be to compare taxi-rides with another bro here with the same model, maybe during the month-end meetup or smtg. Then you can judge for yourself whether it's only your car which exhibits these characteristics..

Good luck!

Re: My issues with my new E90

yeah, or let somebody drive it, see how.

Whatever it is, your Jap ride will feel more reliable than your Germ ride (speaking for myself)

Bro,

Had some problems with my car too. jus make arrangements with pml for a loan car and leave it with them to solve all the problems.

In fact, I send in my car last thurs and only got my car back today.

Gordon.

Re: My issues with my new E90

Crazy, care to elaborate on your issues? How is the car now? By the way, where and which SA did you talk to? I have tried all 3 centres and they all seems to give out suspiciously similar responses. I suspect they can only detect the issue properly when your warranty period ends. They keep using the system to check the car. But I ask them if the sensor is faulty or not placed properly, can the system reflect it? They said no but yet they are very lazy to open up to even verify it. I told them the last time I had another continental car with quite similar issues, it was the air flow sensor. Maybe someone can recommend a reliable "no say everything normal" SA.
