Hi all,

Tried searching in the forum but did not manage to get the info I'm looking for... so starting a new thread.

I need some advice on battery replacement. Battery was 3.5 yrs old and need to be replace (as diagnose by PML). PML quoted ~$600 for the BMW battery... Find that the price is very steep. so now trying to see if there are any cheaper source.

Is there are any stockist that can get it cheaper... any bros got any advice? The part no is 61-21-6-924-023.

BMW specs for the battery
Capacity : 90 Ah
CCA : 900
RC : 160

Else is to get 3rd part brand and replace it. any bros got any recommendation? The closest I got so far is from Varta ULTRA dynamic (P/N: 595 901 085 3332)
Capacity : 95
CCA : 850
RC : ??

Please give your advice on the above. TIA.

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

dont crack your brians too much bro... check out the trusted workshops in the resource folder and ask them... they should be able to get a good replacement batt... S$600 is too much... thought it to be about S$200+++... couldnt have multiplied by 3 in just one year... i know lead had risen... but...

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

just changed my 3.5 year battery at PML... it's S$200+++ including labour... but mine is only a 3 series, think it's only 55Ah...

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

600 for a batt is seriously rather shocking..probably i still noob... for current car haben get to change batt.. but for my previous rides , my camry changed for 120 .. civic fd changed also arnd 120 - 150.... probably bmw is different ??? alot of workshops actually reccomend me Amaron.

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

Thanks for the bump phil..

Yes.. $600 for a batt is really way too much..

GKS, From your specs, it looks like you have either 7 series or a V8 under the bonnet. An equivalent battery from Varta will be in the high $200 to low $300 range. Let us know if you need help..

Cheers

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

if the battery is slightly below 3 yrs, do u need to change it or is it a norm to change it every 3-3.5yrs?

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

Normally, for asian batteries, the life span is 2yrs. For german batteries its up to 3.5 to 4 yrs. This is taking into account a stock car with no ICE and other "accessories". The life span goes down with each additional load placed on the battery.

Drop by the shop and i can show you the remaining capacity of your battery..

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I din change the batt cos in the end, the alternator is the cause of the problem. PML changed the alternator and now the car works fine. Will contact you again if the batt is due for replacement.

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

did PML do a turn around on their initial diagnosis that your car's battery was e cause of the problems?

What's wrong wif ur alternator? Rem 2 take alternator from PML. It could b reconditioned.

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

the initial diagnose by PML is faulty alternator and dying battery. So decided to change alternator 1st and to change battery later. But since the alternator change, there is no more problem with the car. So din change the battery.

Can't remember how much PML charge me as it was quite some time ago. Din take back the old alternator but sure hope that they dun give me a recon unit. Their pricing is so expensive liao and if they still give recon unit, then I think they will be losing customers very very soon. BTW how do you know they are giving recon parts as replacement? Is it a 'norm' for them for cars under warranty?

Re: Need to replace battery. need help!

You paid over $1k right?

You wont be able to tell if its reco or not. Anyway, reco just as good, only thing that dies on and alt is the bearings and carbon brushes, sometimes the regulator, thats all.
