New 220i vs 230i

Any senior know if the new 220i equipped with the same B46 engine as 230i? Heard that 230i was just a chipped up 220i by BMW.

Not sure if we could do the chip up ourselves and save the $30k price difference?

Since last time till now... example 125i is a 3L engine... 318i is detuned 2L engine so on n forth.. however I do hear ppl saying it's not as easy as chipping up or tuning back to get the same. Hardware also may need changes. Btw there is a 230i? I know 218,220,228,235,240 or maybe I never follow haha

I think he means whether the 220 and 230 engine are the same. Whereas 220 and 228 engines are the same. All 2liter

Engine is the same B46.

But compression ratio is quite different.

Transmission gearing ratio is different slightly.

FD is also very drastically different.

Even with an engine tune - the 220i will never have the kind of throttle response unless you change out the differentials.
