Am wondering whether BMW intentionally 'leaked' the brochure to create a bit of a buzz.....

looking at the car, i think it'll definitely create a buzz.
the front looks like the new audi's and from the 3/4 rear view, it resembles the new 5 series. more muscular looking. the lights are nice.

Oh, that's not what I meant by creating a buzz. I think the new car looks fantastic. Least controversial of the bangle cars and very nicely 'updates' the E46 from the pre-flame surface cars. A very nice bridge between the current E46 and the present 7 series (E what ah?)

What I meant about the marketing buzz was that they have 'accidently' leaked the brochure in a staged manner to let pictures of it spread like wildfire through the web and later auto magazines to artifically create some controversy and headlines before officially launching photos. If you look at their BMW movies which were big budget affairs but only launched on the web, they really are quite good at 'exploiting' the web to their advantage.

It could well be that I am reading more into the situation (in which case, there is probably some printing executive slow roasting over a fire in BMW HQ) than the reality but the end effect of this controversy of a 'pua kang' early release of the 3 series brochure is that anticipation for the car has been heightened. Of course, flipside is that E46 sales would likely taper off early....

caught your drift earlier and totally agree with you that there's a good chance that it was probably 'leaked' on purpose :)

and the new 3 series definitely seems like a nice bridge between the current 3 series and the 7 series.

it's nice to see that bmw and mercedes (2006/7?) are leaning towards a more muscular look for their new models and both these marques have decided to gear towards more aggressive headlight styling as well.

but if the sneak peak that mercedes have been releasing for their future models are anything to go by, i think its gonna be a pretty tough fight between these 2 marques! which is always good as long as their designs continue to be cutting edge

I find that the merc cars are a bit like the BMWs during the E34 and E36 era of BMWs. All tended to look very similar from the front. They are very nice designs (especially like the SL and E class) but are a little too me too for my liking. Whereas BMW has seasoned us to the flame surface effect but the cars are all pretty distinctive from each other.

What sneak peak by Merc? Is there a url link? 8)

the sneaks were for the S (and C class i think) and were computer generated concepts that i saw in some auto mags some time back, basically merc likely to have that more angular and less curvy headlights(something like the new 3 series one), and of course also more muscular looking, but not sure if it'll end up on the cars come 06/07, but really hope so cos very nice!

links wise, did a quick search for mercedes sneaks for the S-class and came up with this : http://info.detnews.com/autosinsider/sneakpeek/index.cfm?id=15297
