Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

wat happened to its bodykit...

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

Good question.... i like the look of the original black bumper inserts and the simpler original front grille.

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

i think maybe kena bad frontal accident ba.... the front grille is those used on 190E 1.8L... and the front bumper as well.... or maybe the owner likes to sneak up on ppl... pushing them from behind, let ppl think its an old merc trying to be funny... but leave them in his trail of smoke? lol....

true...heh...some bugger peeled off my old man's 2.3 16 behind...he didn't bother to replace it...and smoked quite a few 'challengers'...kekeke...amused me as a kid...

many of the sg owners in the early 90s were air force pilots...unfortunately many had to sell cos the wives didnt like e car...heh...obsessed with it...

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

hehe... really wolf in sheeps clothing lol.

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

This 190E engine is super strong....worth keeping.

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

hehehe pardon me.. why would anyone like a car that looks like this??

keke - guess I dont have the "classics" eyes...

haha!

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

cos it was Merc's rival to the E30 M3
With an engine from Cosworth

In roadgoing trim the 190E 2.3-16 produced 49 hp (36 kW) and 41 ft·lbf (55 N·m) of torque over the basic single overhead cam 2.3 engine on which it was based. The 2.3 L 16 valve engine made "185 hp (137 kW) at 6,200 rpm and 174 ft·lbf (235 N·m) at 4,500 rpm, the oversquare 95.50 x 80.25 mm bore and stroke dimensions ensuring that it revs easily up to the 7000 rpm redline"[4]. Acceleration from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) was 8.0 seconds, and the top speed was 230 km/h (143 mph)

and this in the 1980s not too bad

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

oh.......
I think E30 M3 more got style.

this one just looks like a box on wheels

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

Unfortunately E30 M3s were all LHD. There is at least 1 lookalike in Singapore, but I believe it's got an auto transmission.

In all fairness, of the 5 photos of the 190E posted above, only the 3 that look like they come from a factory brochure are actually representative of the car. In the photos of someone's car under a porch, it just looks wrong. The bodykit shouldn't be all colour-coded and the car's got the wrong wheels (AMGs need to be bigger, I think).

The actual car looks very discreet in the metal (except for the swansong Evolution models but that's another story), which was and is part of the attraction.

I know of a pearl black 2.3-16 here that used to belong to a friend of a friend until quite recently. It was in pretty good shape, I think.

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

Have always loved this model, esp when the baddies were driving it in Taxi. :D

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

Oh.. my bad. Hehehe... which reminds me: let me dig up my Taxi I/II VCD to watch again. ;)

hi hi...

the car under a porch actually belonged to my old man...
the original colour and rims was like the 1st pic which was metallic black...together with the rims which had a lot of holes in it...no doubt it was lovely...
he loved the car so much he renewed the COE...but then resprayed and changed the rims for easier maintainence... -_-

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

Hihi pilotsnoopy, apologies, no offence meant -- just expressing an opinion.

Your dad's very lucky to have had this car, but I still think it needs bigger wheels if it's an AGM pattern. :)

hey hey...no apologies...i felt e same way too...lol...didnt know what was an AMG then...it was juz ease of use...maintainence...after about 10 years after being imported from the UK...material fatigue really started to set in...the interior...the bodykit...till it conked out finally a few years ago...

it was a hell of a good car..served him well on the trunk roads of Malaysia as the NS highway was being built...overtaking trucks trailers...sights of cows..monkeys...small villages...damm it was interesting as a city kid...and really 'spectacular' accidents...

till now it is a sought after car in Europe...featured on magazines, WCF...just too bad in SG its just too costly to keep...

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

hey fox,

does your friend still has his with him?

Re: Not a BMW... but...wow... Mercedes 190E 2.3-16V

Hi pilotsnoopy, no, it was sold earlier this year or last year I think.

I probably would have bought it if I had known it was for sale then... (even though I need another car like a fish needs a bicycle)... Oh well.
