====================================
Hi,

I found out that NTUC Income doesn’t understand certain Highway Code rules during our exchange of emails regarding a disputed accident claim.

NTUC Income then put 100% liability on my side, this matter was then referred to Fidrec for adjudication which to my surprise also favour NTUC Income 100% decision.

I checked with LTA regarding the Highway code rules and confirmed NTUC Income’s interpretation was different.

NTUC Income said they will still stand firm on their assessment and had already compensated the other party and closed the case as it was already adjudicated by Fidrec.

I then requested for their detail report as a claim was made into my policy. They rejected my request as I know their assessments are wrong!

I wrote to MAS and was told they cannot do anything as it was NTUC Income’s commercial decision and Fidrec already gone through it.

This story is quite lengthy and please ref to my blog for the photos, video and letters at:
Highway code rules

This accident happened in a roundabout at Pandan Circle. The whole incident was captured in my car’s camera system. The dispute mainly boils down to the rules of the road.

My experience tell me this: “Never go to Fidrec for motor accident dispute. NTUC Income will tell not listen”.

Thank you for reading.

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

I guess you will be ditching NTUC Income and move to another insurance company
We have so few roundabouts that most drivers are confused who has the right of way
Safer to go slow and signal early your intention to exit and keep constant look out for vehicles
on your left especially motorcycles

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

this is clearly the driver's fault. pls go watch his video

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

Ask the blogger to go try his theory at Newton Circus and see how it will create a mess ....... Any interpretation of traffic rules are biased towards the safer approach.

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

The OP is correct (or rather his wife). The other car is totally wrong.
People here simply don't know how to drive round a roundabout correctly.
Check the highway code.

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

I hear cries for change and simi hammer during GE 2016...

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

Another way of looking at this issue - how is JK Han's car gonna avoid a car coming from Jalan Buroh (first exit, 9 o'clock) heading for the third exit (West Coast Highway, 3 o'clock) ?

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

From Google street view, this driver (or his wife) was in the second lane of the roundabout with very clear lane marking. Lane changing discipline applied but he never followed. 100% liability on him is correct what.

Check the highway code.

Which part shows he is correct?

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

keep left when exiting roundabout. driver's fault. period

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

I don't know why and what happened but I think it's LTA's fault. Or PAP. Or minister. Anybody but the driver's fault. Must appeal to Parliament!

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

He is the typical asshole who has no idea how to line up to the lane he wanted to exit and still claimed he was right. I call this CONFIDENTLY WRONG!

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

If I were him I would stop and look out for any cars moving straight before turning. Dont except cars to stop for you as you were i the wrong. driving needs lots of common sense oo.

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

He could have stood a higher chance disputing by not sending NTUC the video. Send video = self pwn.

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

in Sg, there are many people who will talk like Queen's Counsel regarding their rights. But they never realise that when someone bangs u at the traffic junction crossing with lights in ur favour and u become paralysed, nobody is going to squat down there and argue over who has right of way or not and whether the driver is Sg or PRC or Indian....

ok, irrelevant.

Agree, that's why must drive slow and careful. Like MW, between Changi and Bedok everyday, but still drive very carefully.

You still haven't get enough laMWyer's letters?

Re: NTUC don't understand Highway Code

I can sympathize with TS because according to online statute, it does seem that car A was supposed to turn. However, we drive to the conditions present and only those drivers (not even the insurers) know what happened, so LL lor.

76. Slow down when approaching a roundabout, and give way to traffic on your right.
UNKNOWN
Remember — you must always give way to traffic approaching from your right. The general rule is that —
traffic from Lane A in this illustration goes to “A”;
traffic from Lane B goes to “B”; and
traffic from Lane C goes to “C”.
If, however, you find your correct lane overcrowded, you may use another lane to reach your destination: Provided that —
(a)
you give clear signals showing your intention in good time;
(b)
you obey the right-hand rule;
(c)
you do not inconvenience other drivers;
(d)
you use your mirror intelligently to see that you do not obstruct the path of vehicles behind you.
