PML BS again?

Hi all,

My car is only 10 months old, just over 20k KM and due for the first Oil Service soon.

Because of my EVERY visit to PML's after service turned out to be quite an Ultimate Despressing Moment I decided to take the advices from the fellows on this forum, and checked out BVO and JuzzForCar. They both gave me a reasonable price and explained what they would include. The comments on this forum have convinced me that they would do a good job.

However, when I called up PML today for the detail of their Oil Service package, the lady on the phone probably figured I was comparing their service with other workshop, and warned me that if I were to service the car other than at PML, I would loose the warranty. Even after I explained to her that I only expect to change the Engine Oil, Oil Filter and "may be" spark-plug and air-con filter, she insisted the warranty will be lost. To me, that is completely full of sh!t.

I would like to check if anyone here who have serviced their BMW outside of PML, and got into any warranty issue with PML at a later stage? Is it not advisable to service the car outside of PML during the warranty period?

Sorry for the wordy post. Any suggestion will be greatly apprieciated.

Thanks in advance.

Re: PML BS again?

Hi...could u kindly furnish more details on yr car specs. I used to have an E46 320i, I service my car at my own regular mechanic with no issues at all. Incidently I changed my power window rotor as it was stuck. It was charged to my car 3 years warranty that comes with it.

What a unique nick, making u sound v old haha...

Anyway back to ur question.
Technically and legally speaking Yes, PML can void your warranty easily if you service your car at non PML workshops during the warranty period.
And the matter is worse if you change to some after mkt parts that lead to the car getting problems this and that. For eg, u change spark plugs other than their recommended brand then should there be any misfiring or engine stall things like that, your warranty pertaining to the engine for that matter will be void.

So far as for me, I use their recommended oil and bring it to outside shop to service my car. This includes the oil filter as well which is original BMW part too.

Re: PML BS again?

Hi,

Last i went, i bought the oil and ask them to change for me during the servicing.

What PML said was as long as you change even the oil outside, they can void the warranty.

Stupid rule but what can we do?

ah peh,

You dont tell them you have done a service outside, how they know.. so dun worry lah....

Most have no choice but to go back PML service just to take the Tao Kua chop..

My car done 27k and not single service done by PML... all 3 times done outside. I disallow them to touch my car...

Today, receive a call from some PML guys doing a survey on PML after sales service.. they ask me 3 different questions on how i felt abt their services.. I replied :

1) SUCKS
2) LAGI SUCKS
3) I hung before she ask me the 3rd question...

Re: PML BS again?

Hi Ah Orh bro. I am also considering servicing outside PML for my car. I got a few questions:
1. how much to do the first 20k+ servicing at either J4C or BVO? (estimate will do)
2. can outside workshop reset the servicing prompt in my car after doing the 20k+ service?
3. if they don't, when my car shutdown or do funny things when the actual prompt in the OB computer overdue?
4. pardon me, but what is 'Tao Kua chop'?

thanks.

Re: PML BS again?

oh, i have a new one to add to the list:

my CSA informed me that BBKs will cause premature downshifting of your autobox, so transmission warranty will be void as well.

sounds like BS to me. i mean, street tyres play a bigger role than brakes in determining braking distance right?

When I had my SMG issue, I sent the car in ( had BBK on obviously) and warranty honored. Who is your CSA ?

ah gong, for record purpose, svc it once or twice a yr with'em. byo engine oil, jus do oil change, instruct not to change anything else & u'll get away with $130+ for labour which i did the last time round.

rest of the svc can be done outside. save money, time, agony, heartache & bs from'em.

me too ... had my AP BBK on forever, when I last had some SMG problems, PML gave me a brand new gear box FOC under warranty.

Re: PML BS again?

Lucky you.....................I need to find excuse too....
Muahaha....

Re: PML BS again?

my CSA's terry, i was chatting with him about my plans for a BBK and he recounted how one customer had a claim rejected because of his BBKs... his service has always been excellent though - he tells me that his hands are tied these days when it comes to major warranty claims as BMW techs are the ones rejecting the claims, not the CSAs.

To answer Q3, the car will not shutdown or do funny things. The counter will just go into negative after the due mark at 0km.

The rest Ah Orr already answered you. :)

Re: PML BS again?

ya, for the past couple years, PML station a "ang mor" guy, probably German, from BMW Asia to assess and approve some of the more major warranty claims, so I guess BMW Asia people don't like BBK ... :(

Re: PML BS again?

or perhaps just automatics with BBK.

anyway, i've got no complaints just yet. this morning, i sent my car in for oil service 1 along with a 10 item list of warranty claims and although my CSA's eyes opened big big when he saw my list, he still obliged.

Missed this post earlier on...

The next time they will say that the BBKs will also void the front electric-adjustable seats' warranty too. The CSAs will probably say "If you brake too hard using the BBKs, the bolts and motors on the seats will give way in no time."

Alamak, Full of C**P, man! :screwedu:
