Question: Annual Depreciation - 3er vs 5er

Of late, I was checking the annual depre and comparing between that for a used F30 328i vs used F10 528i. of similar age Noticed the AD for both is similar and around $20k. Why is this so? I would have guess the 5er will have higher AD.

Similar, the AD on a used M4 seem to be similar to a used M5. Both current models. Their AD is around $32-33k IIRC.

5er losses value faster?

Not only 3er vs 5er.
C class and E class also like this.
Probably due to the skewed demand in used car mkt.

Of course 5er lose value faster compared to 3er.
550 also lose value faster than 520.

Realised that BM cars depreciate lower when they get older.

IMO, seems to apply to all brands too.

Excluding COE* in the equation, highest depreciation is during the first 3 years of a new car... then it tempered off at a gradual more consistent rate.

* If COE is $100k, hypothetically speaking, there is already a fixed depreciation of 10k per year...

I noticed too and therefore I'm not sure if I should go for a 328i or a 5-er.

Re: Question: Annual Depreciation - 3er vs 5er

the reason why currently 5 series and 3 series have similar depreciation for used cars, especially left 1 to 2 years, is because of skewed resale value caused by absurb COE prices in the past few years, so much so that the OMV difference of ~10k between a 5series and a 3series (50k+ vs 40k+) become insignificant compared to the current COE price (60k = 6k per year)
