Radiator coolant flush

Anyone knows what's the recommended service interval for full radiator coolant flush? Car is 2009 E92 M3.

Any idea how big a job this is and what do workshops normally charge?

I think also find out if they can use distilled water along the way .... Don't think it's a big job to flush. To test - use a hygrometer etc and look at the level of acidity.

Re: Radiator coolant flush

I'm just wondering if there even is a need to flush considering its a closed loop system. I mean does the water inside actually "degrade" over time assuming no leaks. Just that car is 5yrs old and 70K+kms already. More of preventative maintenance or am I simply being kiasu?

Re: Radiator coolant flush

its advisable to change it. Doesn't cost a lot. I just flushed my e92 YAM3 at 100000 km. Piece of mind knowing that a fluid which keeps your car running cool is in good condition.

Yes. even though it is a closed loop, and no matter how good the coolant is, due to the presence of water, oxidation of the metal parts in your radiator will inevitably take place due to pressure and heat.

The type and quality of the coolant determines how soon the oxidation will happen, and to be safe, regular changing of coolant will keep oxidation of your radiator to a minimal.

Deciding to flush - get litmus paper and hygrometer. After engine cool down .....

Test the ph level ... If it's less than neutral .... Flush it.
Test the proportion of coolant - use a hygrometer. If less than 40% coolant ..... Flush it.

After flush -

Use distilled water.
Use G48 type coolant.
Mix it not more than 60% coolant 40% water. Most use 50/50..

Re: Radiator coolant flush

Have you also explore adding Engine Ice performance coolant after you flush? One stage was exploring using it, but never gotten to it yet. Might be good for hot weather in SG, especially since you track as well.
