Radiator Leak repair options

Hi guys,

Just wanna share with you my Radiator Leakage experience and costs to repair. Please advise which is a better option

Went for normal 10k servicing at my workshop on Monday.

They found out there's leakage signs hardening on my radiator pipes and hoses. So quoted me $900+ to change all hoses.

Told them I will bring back the car next week to fix it.

Today. I called Eng Soon for a quote on the pipes and hoses for my 320i e90. They quoted me $450 for all pipes and $300 for the radiator reservoir.

Should I buy everything from Eng Soon and just pay for labour costs or let my wkshop do everything?

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

Don't they add up to 900+ when you pay for labour of 200+ to install those?

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

900+ to change pipes and hoses?? they think u cai tao ah?
go look for other workshop for quote...hoses and pipes alone shouldn't cost that much

Bro, Eng Soon quoted me $450 for just the 6 pipes leh... You mean there cheaper ones out there? I tot ES quite reasonable...

The reservoir is $300. Add together already $750 liao. Labour cost is $200++

Bro Vegadonovan, sorry, I forgot to mention, my workshop quoted me $900+ for the pipes and not yet add labour costs. So it should be about $1.1k.

Sorry guys, this is my first 120000km radiator repair. Just wanted to know how much you guys pay for your radiator change (hoses and reservoir)

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

paiseh, tot u were mentioning pipes n hoses, didn't see u put the reservoir.

what is your model by the way? and the pipes u are referring to, we are talking abt the rubber silicon hoses right?

anyway, it doesn't hurt to get a 2nd opinion by another workshop unless u prefer to do it with your usual one

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

if need to change all hoses and tank, yes i think can cost up to $900...recently juz changed my tank (cracked) and few hoses... $600. always good to get 2nd opinion.

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

Hi bro, eng soon selling the reservoir (radiator expansion tank) for $95 only cuz I just replaced mine last week. Can't be $300, even w coolant which is only $17.

can diy.
just stop the car, let it cool for like minimum half to 1 hr.....after that use a 20cent coin to open up the valve screw with a + sign next to the radiator cap, then open radiator cap. pour water in until water overflow out of it, screw back valve screw then cap back.

pretty easy diy if your low coolant issue is nothing too serious

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

Great thing about the beemer is that it has a low coolant sensor and warning.... I remember the last time I drove an old Jap car - no low coolant level warning. Drive until radiator DRY liao, and then smoke coming out from engine bay!

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

I have the coolant level low warning for my F30 also. Question is do I top up water to the coolant reservoir or to the radiator directly? My understanding is that the car will draw the coolant from the reservoir when the radiator is low.

Re: Radiator Leak repair options

Reservoir. That's where the low-coolant sensor is anyway.

If it's a small top-up amount, it's usually okay. Else make sure you don't just use pure water - add in a coolant mix. The anti-rust properties in the coolant mix is super important in hot-weathered countries like Sunny Singapore!
