Bro,
As far as I know, there is no change in engine power on the 320i 2.2l engine. Just a facelifted look. Your best bet might be to get a mid 2002 model (before the reduced scrap value ruling set in) which is already facelifted and for which u can get PARF at 80% of OMV and not 65%. Then enjoy the remainder of the 3 years warranty and then MOD when the warranty expires in 05.
The 320i is a nice car to drive. U shd have no regrets.
Calculating scrap value is easy. Assuming you are buying a car where the PARF is 80% of OMV (the log card will state that), this is what u shd get back if you de-register or some call it scrap your car:
(i) Car is 10 years old - u get 80% of OMV
(ii) Car is 9 years old - u get 90% of OMV plus pro-rata unused portion of COE
(iii) Car is 8 years old - u get 100% of OMV plus pro-rata unused portion of COE
(iv) Car is 7 years old - u get 110% of OMV plus pro-rata unused portion of COE
(v) Car is 6 years old - u get 120% of OMV plus pro-rata unused portion of COE
(vi) Car is 5 years or younger old - u get 130% of OMV plus pro-rata unused portion of COE
NB: Depending on the age, condition and mileage of your car, the body of the car may also be worth something to exporters.
NB: As u can see, scraping your car when it is only 4 yrs old makes no diff to u scrapping it when it is 5 years old as the max u can get is 130% of OMV. The only diff is that u get back another year of unused COE and you car might have greater export value. That is why alot of people choose to de-register only when the car reaches the 5-year mark and not earlier.
