Hi Mates!

Morning to anyone out there now! Juz bk to sin today and tried my E46 2.2 on Sepring from airport bk to my home and love the bassy sound dudes! Elmariachi was right, it's getting more refined now and not as loud on the first day I got it up..

Getting on with my projects. well as usual, always different school of thoughts out there..

Subject : Thinking of changing my facotry fitted 16" to 18" impt question : Replicas or Original??

Replicas: cheaper, lighter, well-built?, sustainable for E46 due to weight?, faster pickup due to weight?
Original: Better built, sustainable, heavier(slower pickup?), more ex

So comments from the bros out there, most appreciative.. :argue:

No laa, slowly slowly... how i mod 2.2 to become 3L .. that's the ulimate mate.. So galant any comment on my post above.. I need some feedback.. TX!!

Bro.. you should get originals.... better built... and at least you noe they wun be so soft.. you can find real good lightweight rims for originals too... just that you'll have to come out abit more.. but i guess it'll be better in the long run ya??... drop by any one of the tyre shops listed under Sg workshops.. then do talk to them and let them noe of ur specs.. i'm very sure you can find something u want.. it jus comes down to how much u wana fork out ya?.

I agree with Shaaz on this... It depends on your budget... U can go replicas or originals... some replicas are lighter, some original are lighter, some replicas can't last, some originals are soft..

Hope I didn't confuse u! Try Tirerack.com if u are free to see how the rims look on your car before deciding too!

On of the bros wanted to sell his BBS Rims RXII, maybe I should get that.. Anyone out there using this rims and if I would want to upgrade my caliipers,etc , would there be any problem? Cheers mate.

Buy Original Rims with Simple Design because BMW Brake Dust is a nightmare.

John,

Got big budget, go for originals
Got limited budget, go for replicas or 2nd hand originals.

RIM design wise, depend on individual. It is your ride and choose something that you like best.

One thing to note is the brake dust may be a hassle to remove, if you have complex rim design.

Most of my tyres and rims are sourced from Justin of Poh Heng. He offers great value and good trade-in too.

Go for 18" immediately.

I think the brake dust problem can be solved by getting dustless pads like Axxis etc.

ok.. bbs RXII are 2 piece rims... very strong but abit on the heavy side, say 11-12 kg per rim??around there... upgrade of calipers???... u can't fit BBK in thats for sure. it's not going to slow u down by a big margin... but let's just say u'll feel that other 320's seem abit faster than u . I used to use the rims.. decent looking, it's a nightmare just washing the rims alone due to the multispoke design, brake dust wun be a hassle if u just wash it everyday.. spray abit of water.. take a sponge and wash it up!.. wun take u too long.. BBS CH's are much lighter i think.. cause if im not wrong they're one piece... OVERALL.. BBS makes very good strong rims IMHO. but for the BBS RXII.. john i dun think u'll be able to fit BBKs in it.. unless u put spacers in .. that's wat jack told me last time... PAK JACK!!.. help here?... :)

With regards to BBK, you can forget about the OEM BMW Star 71 rims too...

well mates, not going for new ones definitely.. a number of the bros here wanted to sell their 18" rims with tyres. since i'm new to these mods, 2nd hand would works well for me to experience the differences. if i not like it, i still can sell them without burning a hole in my pocket.. cheers mate.

I guess that for 18", u can fit BBK... just that u got to see the offsets of the rims. Barry's 18" replicas can fit 356mm rims... My 19" BBS CH can fit BBK... actually before deciding on BBKs, u got to see how friendly are the rims! If u are not thinking of BBKs, 18"s are fine!

But why go 18" if u can go 19"... kekekeke!

i heard 19' ARE for hard core!! i heard the set up will be hard to ride and comfort is not there.

19" are only for "showing-off"... no other benefits other than chio-ness... unless u count stability during corning due to the bigger tire contact to the road. Other than that, u'll be getting increased FC, cost of tires are high, car slower etc etc.

Blah blah blah... damn, its the weekend! Woot!

OK MATE.. got yr pts. man, cant wait to get the 18". u know what the weight of the original pg2 18" wiegh? i check the website but no info.. i do not want to get pg2 if it affects my pickup mate..

Dear mates, got my 18" rims up. Sorry to the fans of org rims, I got a replicas riding on Yokohama tyres. The car really looks different now!! Next should be the angel eyes...

You're 19s are for show one lah!
John if you were to buy a used rim remember to check it has been bent etc. Tires will also be very expensive for 18 and 19s

Congrats dude!

Now, drop that ride and make them 18s look and ride even better..........Bilstein PSS9s are nice............

How much will the Pss9 cost/install? What the difference with others? I read somewhere in the forum that it is adjustable? Cheers
