Re: Reserve fuel tank capacity

In vehicles equipped with catalytic converters, a situation can occur wherein the catalytic converter can become defective by running the vehicle until the tank is completely empty. When the tank becomes empty, the fuel pump sporadically pumps vapor instead of liquid. The necessary metering of fuel to one or more cylinders of the engine of the motor vehicle can then drop so greatly that combustion misfires occur. The uncombusted fuel is then subsequently combusted together with oxygen in the catalytic converter whereby the temperature of the catalytic converter increases. The temperature increase can be so significant that the catalytic converter becomes permanently damaged (it melts).
well said, Bro!
u r some kinda of techkie freak to me..
is abv more of assumption with theory or wat?
to me, when fuel low (light on n show mileage minus "-" km) guess yr car still has that so call spare "tank" feature comes in, which probably has "8 litres"
in my E60 case, i top up usually light on, mileage 0~10km level, abt 66 L, and spec say my E60 is 70 L tank.
so from here, I m technically (binded by spec to follow) allow up to 4 L max.
But in my experience, in Jap cars, when light on, I travel up to 80km...
so in all aspect of tech design, there shld be a safety factor of 1.5 times
that means I m thinking of 70 L is spec-in but actually car can run til flat at 55 + 15x1.5= 77L max rule.. b4 yr car "die" off
just my opinion
