Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

The race organisers clearly aren't aware a recession is going on. Selling tickets in April 2009 is not the same as in February 2008 - hello?? Didn't the Shanghai organisers slashed some ticket prices by what, 40%?

I hope these jokers learn the hard way, just like the trackside hotels did last year. Seriously I'll rather fly to Monza or somewhere to catch a race.

F1 tickets on sale April
By Lin Xinyi

TICKETS for the 2009 Formula SingTel Singapore Grand Prix will go on sale on April 9.

All grandstands, except for the Bay Grandstand, will be available then. The cheapest early bird ticket during this period is $498, which will get you a seat at the Padang or Esplanade Waterfront Grandstand.

The Pit grandstand, which was priced at $1,388 last year, is available at $1,188 for early birds.

This will be followed by a second launch on April 20, where Bay Grandstand and three-day walkabout tickets will also be released.

The cheapest ticket for this year's race - $28 for an early bird single day walkabout pass on Friday - will go on sale then.

A total of 72,000 tickets will be available this year - 2,000 more than last year's initial release.

Both parts will start with an early bird release, which will consist of up to half of the available tickets for grandstand and walkabout passes.

Once the early bird allotment in each area is sold out, the remaining tickets will be offered at the regular 2009 rates.

In the early bird release of part one, fans will have the opportunity to purchase tickets for Turn 1, Turn 2, Stamford and Pit Grandstands with savings ranging from 7 per cent to 14 per cent compared with last year.

However, regular prices are either the same or more expensive, than last year's.

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

Hey Kai Pin,

I'm still thinking of getting the tickets, the only problem I have is that I am not sure where to choose this time! :(

Cheers!
Sam

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

Sorry OT abit.... early bird catches the worm, presumably the worm is an early worm?

So does it pay to be early or not? How do you know if you are the early bird, or the early worm?

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

wonder y they still raise the ticket prices sia..
my take is this yr less ppl goin cos the novelty factor of the 1st nite race is gone..

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

So, if you were to buy tickets - where would be the best place?
(best bang for buck, and assuming no one lavishes you with easy access to the pit)

Marina Bay Grandstand! :) At least u get to walk in the pits... the Aston and Porsche pits, that is! :)

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

actually i sat many places last yr. my favourite was padang. damn happening there. a lot of food n chicks to see. knn all the corp suites la...granstand la..stuffy like fark. so serious. u wanna c chick..best go padang its a huge party there....errr assuming cars r not that important to u. even if u wanna watch....they hv 4 big jumbo screens to c the rest of the action. anyway imo singapore gp is boring....no overtaking, i prefer the chicks.

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

i was in marina bay grandstand and didn't see much. view kept getting blocked by people walking up and down the stairs, very packed. In the end, we ended up at the padang and watched tv. It did seem a lot more fun over there

OT I think I heard the pits for the support races will be moving from under the marina bay grandstand this year to somewhere else.

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

Sam, get a different view this year la! We'll go walk the circuit again ok.

Ken is spot on with the worm analogy. The pricing seems more like an "early-worm" incentive for the organisers, in case people really tighten their belts as the recession wears on.
:fineprin:

Anyway, in case you folks are thinking of booking a balcony view instead, the trackside hotels haven't figured out their rates yet. Stay tuned... or sign up for Toto's chick tour hehe.

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

walkabout tickets are the best. i spent $500 for a ticket last year. the race was boring and at the end i walk around to check out various viewpoint, see see look look what's happening, etc. the $500 ticket for a seat is not worth it afterall.

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

Kai Pin, I am looking at the Esplanade Waterfront Seats or Connaught Grandstands, not sure though... But confirm will walk about with u! :)

i made the mistake of buying turn 2 tickets last year. they were the same price as turn 1 and pit grandstand but far inferior.... good thing i didnt go for turn 3 because i think they would worse value

if you want access to the pit you need the paddock tickets - but too expensive for most people to use their own cash on... hopefully i get invited this year...

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

the onyl good thing about the RBS suites was the food! i spent most of my time telling people red = ferrari = massa n kimi. nnb, then they say how come got 4 red bull team...knn wasting my time. after awhile i pretend i cant hear them....stuff ear plugs. all pubor dumbfcuk corp clients....cant tell the difference between a driver n a tire mechanic. when masa's fuel hose came out....some dumb bitch said..walao so funny the cars intestine came out!!!! nnb i almost pushed her down the balcony.

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

i bought the ticket last year for the straight route..regretted big time..the cars zoomed past so quickly that i can hardly figure out which car from each team has just went past..first few laps..everyone was so excited each time the cars dashed past the crowd..the excitment gradually died after first few laps..it was then that i realised that i should have bought somewhere that can see the cars turn..even if the ticket cost more..the seats along straight route are complete waste of $$ IMO (DONT RECKON ANYTHING WILL HAPPEN ON STRAIGHT LINE)..FYI for those who intend to get tickets for this year..

Re: Singapore F1 2009 - watch from home instead

the turns aint much fun too. T1 n T2..u only hear the cars fart. T10 also alot of fart....some langas....basicall the circuit layout is boring la. lets all do the toto plan. see chicks. gtee happy days.
