Stock ECU re-mapping by HioP / light weight pulleys

guys,

1) i recently heard of something like this. claimed to increase the engine bhp as much as 30bhp (for E46 M3) with aftermarket exhuast and air filter. all i need to do is to let them download the map in my stock ECU and they'll send it to HiOp for remapping. Just load it back to my ECU and i get immediate bhp increase, needless to worry about the injectors, light weight pulleys, etc etc. anyone has got any comments on this matter?..cheers guys.
if it's true, then it's just awesome, and it's only gonna cost around RM3000. which also comes to RM100/horsie...hmmm..sounds reasonable for a N/A engine...:)

2) Light weight pulleys too was said to provide very dramatic improvement in driving respond. was just wondering, will the different weights of the pulleys, in this case which is lighter, to have any effect on the well balanced rotating parts designed by the ///M division...mind to share on this? as far as i know when i was driving my R33, a Main pulleys with fluid damping cost me around RM5k and we have to state the type of crank, rods, and piston, together with the Max RPM for perfect custom made order...the pulleys for BMW comes very cheap and very affordable but how much would it affect the balance of the rotating parts?..thanks again for any comments..

thanks a mil' guys..:yummie:

Hi tony, for the ECU re-mapping part I think you should be able to find some information on this forum if you do a quick search under Hi-Op. You should be able to find some comments from some of the members here who have done it. At the end of the day, this is a very subjective issue. Some compare it $ vs bhp gain or butt feel vs $ or even dyno results vs butt feel.

Some may find it good, some may think its only average... Through my personal experience, whenever I purchase power mods I will usually choose not to look at the so called acclaimed power increase.

Reason being that these paper figures are usually (80%) tested in different environments. They therefore yield different figures.

i) temperature
ii) humidity
iii) type of dyno machine used
iv) is it tested under load or free weight
v) petrol used

Now for the pulley part, I believe it does perhaps allow your car to feel "livelier" yet again it also depends on which pulley you are changing.

I remember a case sometime back when I changed a pulley. My bhp did not increase, however my revs did climb alot quicker. In simple layman words, I reached my peak horsepower much quicker, therefore my vehicle is indeed faster (without an increase in bhp). Somewhat similar to lightening your car to make it faster concept.

I do not own an ///M so I can't give you much further information on your ride.

Anyway I hope the above makes sense to you :)

M3 engine, is pretty much at a max state of tune, probably one of the top 10 engines in the world right now.
i doubt very very much you can get 30 horses from just a ECU remap. easier to get blood from a stone.

also, if you do want to extract the most from an ECU, my experience is its always better to go for those that specialise in that particular marque. e.g DMS or Dinan.
Hiop is one of those love all serve all outfits.
