'strange' noise when firing up engine (e90 320i)

Freaking 9 year old lao pok e90 of mine. Whenever I start the engine, even when it is warmed up but especially noticeable during cold start, there is this irritating noise which last for first 3 to 5 seconds.

Its as if some belt is loose or pulleys are not oiled. Kinda like manually trying to start a generator at those pasar malam if you know what I mean. After the engine has run for a few more seconds, the noise is normalized.

Anyone has this also? Whats the problem.

What is your engine code? N46 perhaps?

Problem solved . As in I was told what is the problem.

Its due to the Starter Motor.

Did you change the starter motor? What's the damage in terms of $$ to change it?
