Tensioner belt and pulley system - E90

Dear all,

Just for sharing this belt which is rather important.

The function of this belt is to to allow the engine to drive the air-con compressor and the alternator which generates electrical power for our car and charges the battery.

Should this belt breaks while driving, the engine might over heat and we might experience no power nor air-con.

I heard recommendation to change this every 50KM mileage but some of us will change upon the visible signs of worn off.

I got my parts from the Kakit Bukit stockies as usual and bring to the any workshop to fix.

Cheers!

It cost less than 20 for this belt... wise to change instead for physical wear and tear to be visible..

the belt itself is cheap. but since its been change, it would be prudent to also change out also the pulley and tensioner.
labour cost would not go up too much.
but the pulley & tensioner cost abit more.
total should be around 200++ to 300+ for supply & install the 3 item you see in Aaron's picture.

These are items checked by a good workshop when you do your regular servicing, assuming you do your servicing regularly in the first place.

I agree. But most workshop would proberly say that it was checked then and show you the "checklist" done.
Followed by saying these belt thing sometimes just snap as and when they like. Which does make some sense to me.
No problem is too big as long as it can be solved the first time around.

Yes,

this is why I am buying the belt and changing it after the mechanic told me it's worn off.

Workshop should check and we should also do our own checks and note our maintenance too.

My post is good reminder for our forum members to take note of the condition of their own car's belt vs the risk of belt breaking up.

To be honest, I truly wonder what kind of workshops have you guys been going to?

For the last 12 years in this forum, I have been treated well by the majority of the panel of workshops here - from BVO to R2D. All professionals, no hanky-panky and no bulls.

Nowadays I still go to R2D and Rod is still the same.

The last time my belt snapped is water pump bearing seize.

Please dont take this the wrong way. Im not complaining about workshop or anything.
Just that i acknowledge that good, if not most, ws will check for such wear and tear parts. (Its good for them to be able to spot such potential failure and tell the owner, who will most likely choose to change it there and there which translate to additional sale for the workshop), but at the same time, these belt do snap whenever they feel like it.

These are E90 parts. Are there similar parts on an E92 Coupe 335i that should be replaced?
