Hi everyone, my name is William, 28 yrs old. Pleased to be here. :)

My wife and I are having a hard time deciding between 2 cars. My wife prefers the Beemer 523i while I like the GS300. I was hoping to tap on your expertise on Beemers to help us determine which car to buy.

The prices for these 2 cars are about the same. I know a lot of pple raved about a Beemer's drive but in terms of standard equipment & comfort, the 523i is not quite up there with the GS300. If you were in our shoes, which would you choose? Do give us yr thoughts. Thank you in advance for your kind contribution.

Hi Seaplane...
Welcome to our forum.

For your age I guess bimmer would suit your better.

But to be perfectly honest, I'd also find it tough to resist the level of equipment/comfort in GS300

My heart tends to go for the GS300

Hi Triple M,

Thanks for your contribution. I appreciate your honesty. I think guys would normally factor in the equipment level of a car rather than just the looks. So i guess it's Lexus 2 - 0 BMW 523i. Thanks again!

Re: Thanks for the warm welcome, Ryan!

Hi Triple M,

I would appreciate if you take part in the poll as well. Thanks!

Hi Gadaffi,

Thanks for your input. I believed you've taken part in the poll as well. My wife must be quite relieved now after going down 2 - 0 from the start. Score is Lexus 2 - 1 BMW 523i.

I truly believe a BMW drives much better than any other makes (I'll never take that away from a Beemer) but the interior of a 523i turns me off whenever I step into it. From the armrest area to the centre console... OMG... Drive/Performance are worthy of it's price tag, but CERTAINLY not it's interior/standard equipment.

Re: Thanks for the warm welcome, Ryan!

Hi,

I voted for the 523i.. but only just by a small margin.
I would go for the 525i anytime but then the premium to pay is quite big...

GS300 is a great car.. but somehow, i feel the BMW has the slight edge in terms of the balance between driver/passenger/performance/poise/luxury/appeal.... BMWs always have that "X factor that other marques dont.

But i agree the GS300 is a very complete car.. and it is a very very close fight..

But then you could say I am biased.. haha..

Its 523i for me, but only very just...

if its 525i, then my vote is clearer...

Hi SMYUEN,

Thanks for contributing. I kinda agree with you on one thing. If I have the dough for 525i, I would not hestitate choosing it over the Lexus GS300.

Wow... This forum is really active. You guys are great! I sincerely appreciate all the inputs I've received so far (be it for Lexus or BMW). Thanks again! However, DO NOT forget to take part in the poll as well! Cheers!

Re: Thanks for the warm welcome, Ryan!

Hi Seaplane, welcome to BMW-SG.

I'm driving a Lexus GS300, but I ain't gonna side the GS.

Yes, agreeded that Lexus GS standard package gadgets is much more attractive den the 523i, but the vehicle handling doesn't even come close to BMW.

Interms of looks, I'll go for the GS, E60 look sucks big time.
Power wise, the 523i is way to under-power.

So, end of the day depends on wat u're looking for, gadgets/comfort or plain handling of the car.

Happy deciding.

Re: Thanks for the warm welcome, Ryan!

Hi Seaplane..

Before I cast my vote, I think (in my opinion) you need to ask yourself a coupla questions:

1. Are you the sort who'll buy a car and leave it 'stock' til the day you sell it, or are you the sort who will look into mods (eg. Internals and/or externals)?

2. Which would you rate as being more important... A spirited drive, or comfort?

If you're a buy-it-and-leave-it-stock kinda person, go with the GS... cos (IMHO), modding a Lexus, expecially exterior-wise, actually cheapens the overall look...

If you're a spirited driver, go with the beemer... cos there isn't a Lexus made yet, that is anywhere as rewarding a drive as a Beemer...

Ta..

agree with u abt the interior bt r u looking 4 a car juz for the interior??
stability, performance, etc goes to bmw 523.
like wat SM say, go for the 525 instead, i truly support it.
share wit u something, i'm driving an e39 (6 years old car) n rx300 (less then a year).
for driving pleasure my e39 is far away better.
the servive site for the lexus is *@#**, they r terrible guys, honesty is not there...

Re: Thanks for the warm welcome, Ryan!

Between 523i and GS300, I'd go for the GS300, more complete package.
Between GS300 and 525i, then the 525i wins, but only if you can live with the looks.

But all of them are wonderful cars, glad you're in the position to choose! :)

Hi Snail_Mobile,

Thanks for the warm welcome. I couldn't agree with you more (same goes to kl88). At the end of the day, it boils down to personal preference. I'm UTTERLY convinced that nothing drives quite like a Beemer but sad to say I'm a sucker for gadgetry and comfort.

The dynamics/drive of a car aren't that important to me. I ain't no boy racer. Imagine staring at something that you don't like/hate everytime you drive/step into the cabin... That's very bad.... I just feel that the price I have to pay for a 523i isn't justifiable based on the standard equipment given. I believe GS300's drive isn't that far off, right? It's a Lexus man...

In a perfect world, I would not hesitate (even for a second) to choose a 525i Individual/530i or even a M5 over a GS300, but in reality, I can only afford a 523i...
