The First Beamer Experience..

Hi all..

Just collected my Beamer E90 320i.. noticed a few problems. Do you guys have them?

1 After driving back at a cool night.. stop the car.. vapour (fog) appears at the corner of my headlamp. I guess the headlamp is not fully sealed up.

2 The electronic seat memory has to pressed on all the way. Its not like a one push.. and everything goes back to the recorded seating position.

3 I think my car doesnt have cruise control right?

Maybe you guys can advise me on that?

Cheers!

Stanley

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

1) Never noticed the headlights, but one thing that irks me at times is the air con will cause vapour to condensate at the windscreen on cool nights....

2) Yeah electric seat memory has to be pressed all the way....

3) Car also have no cruise control...

But do have fun on your new car!!! Did you just get it recently?

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Yeah Bro! Thanks for ur reply!

I just got it 3 days ago. Hhehee.

Anyway.. the Air Circulation button.. whereby it allows air to only circulate in the car.. always disabled by itself. Sometimes forget to press it. so.. the smoke from outside comes in. is there any way to enable it everytime?

Thanks bro!

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Bring your car down to PML and ask then to reprogram it. It's FOC.

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

me tried getting them to reprogram the air circulation buttom las month but the CSA says it cant be done yet, hopefully they hv figure out tis month.

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Ya.. its damn irritating. Its like I am bound to forget to press the Circulate Air Con Thingy.

Keep me updated. Meanwhile to ensure that, i press the circulate button to on the aircon. Hope that helps.

I owned a E46 318i and has driven a E90 320i for 4 days while my car was under repaired by PML.

I was rather surprice to see the Air-con circulate button on the Steering Wheel for E90 :(

May be because E90 do not have cruise control and they just designed this stupid air-con circulate button on the Steering wheel.

Anyways ! enjoy your New Car :)

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Yes Man Bro! Spot on. Idiotic to make the circulate button on steering wheel.

YO Brothers... another set of questions! Hope you dun find me problematic!!

1 The phone on the steering seems like a dummy. Cannot be used. Any one knows how to activate it?

2 Secondly, when u locked your car.. u realised that the gear signage "P" remains lit for at least an hour before it goes off. I think thats totally redundant!

3 We paid a high premium.. and yet my car doesnt come with an alarm system!

Kaoz! But I do enjoy the ride.. hope beamers should do something on these problems!

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Hey brothers, I love the recirc button. At the pain of being obvious, it serves two purpose:

1. Allows fresh air in to keep us cool and level headed when driving longer than city distances, for example up country. Some even say more O2 flow to the brain.

2. I've noticed that on certain cool evenings, the a/c gets too cold (bones getting old) and activating the recirc to off via a mere blip on the steering wheel returns the a/c to a reasonably acceptably cool cabin

Me? I love the recirc button on the steering wheel. No complains.

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

the phone is not installed in the base 320i. i believe it is factory fitted, so i dont think you can just "activate" it.

in this day of engine immobilisers, alarm systems are getting somewhat redundant in my view.
its practically impossible to start a BM W without the key, so unless they tow it, or rob u of the key, i wouldnt worry so much..

as for snatch thieves,, well, they are in and out in under 30 seconds, so an alarm really isnt going to deter them either.

Just a thought.....Can the cruise control from the E46 be brought over to the E90?

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Hi Brothers..

My E90 has a feature whereby if I let go the safety belt..it keeps reminding and beeping! Is there anyway to disable it temporary? sometimes.. we want to let go off belt when in car park and yet it keeps calling!

Cheers!

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Yeah, try moving your butt off the seat and the seat will then note that no one is sitting on the car... Alternatively, if you do find a better method do let me know yeah...

Ha Ha !

Same topic has been discussed sometime back :)

I can understand it is very irritating but for safety reason.

Next, if I am not wrong there are no coolant temperature gauge in 320i E90 right?
Correct me if I am wrong.

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Thanks brothers for ur reply!

Anyway.. i have the habit of warming my car before i go off in the morning.. how do u guys gauge the temperature before u go off? There is no engine temperature meter...

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

guys I also a nw BENG owner of 320i E90 and has this to say.

The recir button seems annoying to me initially too, but I think bcos we were too used to[for me] jap cars previous. its ok lah, sometimes its good to get 10 mins interval of outside air, esp if cheonging KJE at night ...kekeke

The seat belt alarm goes on if u dont have belts on after say 200m, but I felt its a good safety feature. I also used to looesen the belts when reverse parking, but no longer now as the car comes with reverse tilt down wing mirror on teh left.

The bluetooth phone feature I havent figure out how to use. it will cost $2k as an accesory if fitted i was told.

BTW my car is teh standard 320i, not the Aerospace version so some of u new owners may not have certain features.

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Yeah I think they should have kept the temp. gauge. Otherwise in times of overheating, we wont
even know until the car finnally stall. By then, some damage would have been done due to the
continued driving when engine overheat.

It happened on my previous E46 as the water pump kaput. Luckily I had the temp gauge then and immdeiately stop the car at the highway and towed it back to workshop. My mechanic was telling me if I had continued driving I would have damaged the valves and that will be really costly.

Another thing I miss is the engine oil dip-stick on the E90. Simple as it be, but i think it serves an important role not just oil level checks but alos ensure my engine oil is shining healthy champagne colour rather than black! Now I got to turn on the OBC just to check the oil level.
Although I am a gadget freak, I would still prefer the simple good old dipstick anytime.

Re: The First Beamer Experience..

Yah, I think the engine coolant temperature meter is very important ... I have had my previous Alfa overheating just parking on idle ... went to the red! I can't imagine what it would be like w/o a temp meter. I think there should be a limit to cost cutting measures taken.

Cars before the 80's also have a battery volt meter. I think that is very useful too, when it is at its most critical. For my IS200 (which has a voltmeter), I was able to 'save' myself from having to tow my car or call AA, when I noticed my voltage drop one morning and having to crank the car a second time. Instead of going to work, I drove straight to Borneo workshop. True enough ... when I shutoff the engine, the workshop mechanic was not able to restart the car again. A critical meter ideed, IMO.

Another meter that is missing from cars' dashboards nowadays (but present in the 70's and earlier cars) is the vacuum gauge. I recall this is more to help you time your manual gear changes ... but then, you could do that using your ears and the tacho too. I guess this meter disappeared when most cars started to have tachos as standard equipment.

As for my car (E46 318i), In the mornings, I usually like warm-up for 1 min then drive very easy until to normal level which is at half mark before I ramped my car.

Not sure how you guys gauge without a temp gauge? Especially as IS200 said, how to tell if your car is overheat? Please check with PML :)

Any brother driving E90 has overheat problem before? May be can share with the rest :)
