Trunk Switch - Intermittent Issue

Wonder anyone faces the problem that the trunk switch will not work with the key fob in your pocket at times?

Most of the time it works but I noticed after parking the car for > 5-6 hours, when I return to the car (with doors still locked) and just press the trunk switch (with key fob in pocket) it will not open the trunk.

When back PML complained twice, since problem is intermittent they say adjusted the trunk switch and monitor. I suspect the comfort access antenna circuit is not working well......Going back to complain again in my next servicing.

Anyone?

Same here. Sometimes people give me the dirty look when I'm doing the kungfu kick under the rear bumper without success.

Maybe need to change the key fob battery ?

Unlikely. If battery weak cannot be working all the time for all the doors and don't work when car stop for a few hours for only the trunk.
Anyway ..... already changed since that is the easiest. Still the same.

Re: Trunk Switch - Intermittent Issue

Wherever you have parked the car has radio interference. The fob operates at 315 mhz which is a frequency emitted by a whole of appliances and power cables etc ....

Unlikely. The same problem happen at various locations.

Besides, if there is interference the problem will not be solve by just unlocking the front doors.
When this happen, if I open the front doors and then lock it and go and test the trunk problem it will disappear.

It seems like the trunk detection circuit ("power down" or rather "defective") that's why I cannot open using the switch - its not detecting the key fob. But when I open the front door it also "wakes up" the trunk detection circuit thus the problem will then be gone. But it will Come back in 5-6 hours time.....

Sometimes explaining to the PML SA itself is a "challenge". They treat you like "idiot", maybe I should pack my trunk with my lab spectrum analyser, oscilloscope, signal generator just to let them know I know what I am talking about.... :)

Try taking a step or 2 away from the rear bumper which has an antennae. Seemed to recall the operating specs are for a radius of 0.5-1.5m from fob to antennae for CA (not fob remote buttons).

There's another antennae in the further end of the trunk area to prevent the trunk from closing if the fob is within the range - so range plays a part.

I have the same problem as you. I realise that the FOB detection capability is much poorer when the car is in deep sleep. Its worse when my FOB is in the same pocket as my mobile phone.

Nowadays I place my FOB away from my mobile phone and if the trunk switch does not work, I step back 1 meter and then come back to try again. I suspect the car is already awake the first time I pressed the trunk switch. No need to unlock the doors.
