Tyre Burst

Wasn't a good day yesterday. Had a tyre burst after running over a hook drop from a truck. Was lucky to still running on RFT and was able to drive all the way to tyre shop and got it replace. (An 1.5 inch of cut thru the tyre centre foot print)

Seriously, i felt that BMW concept for not having a space tyre is a stupid mistake :wtf:. I cannot imagine those who are not on RFT, they gonna be stuck in the middle of e'way.

Re: Tyre Burst

most of us don't bother....even if they gave a spare, chances are we took it out and put it somewhere else.
so i guess they took heed of most consumer habits.
in addition, in jialat cases, we LL but sop will call our workshops for tow truck

Re: Tyre Burst

Pro and Cons.........

hope everything is in order for you now Derrick........
cheers

Even though my E39 has spare tyre, i did not maintain it. It is as good as no spare. Instead, i got Airman & AAS membership. If shit happens, juz call AAS tow truck loh.

Re: Tyre Burst

Actually I feel that all cars should be on RFT so that there is no need to stop and change wheel while causing traffic congestion at the same time. If on RFT, all one needs to do is to drive to tyre shop for repair or replacement. If all car manufacturers deliver cars with RFT and only recommend replacement with RFT, then RFT will be the norm and thus, would likely be cheaper than non-RFT. With RFT, it will be much safer to drive at high speed.

But I guess the RFT situation is similar to the diesel car issue in S'pore. We all know that turbo diesel engine is about double the efficiency of petrol engine and it is also cleaner, but still it is prohibitively expensive to buy diesel car in S'pore.

Re: Tyre Burst

I am on 20" non-RFT and i worried one day if burst i dont't even have chance to limp to nearest tire shop to patch. Must call tow truck.

Re: Tyre Burst

Bro helbreath, that's ok if you are in Sg. If you are on NS highway, happily OBEYING speed limit, and this happens, you'll feel damn KNS...

Re: Tyre Burst

the RFT no doubt is good for safety and certain performance factor. BUT its not cost effective as pointed out by 156F1.

I use non-RFT since I upgraded my wheel sizes. I had several nail poked on my tires but never once i had to cruise to tire shop immediately. often the nail was found when I serviced my car when it was jacked up. once during CNY my OBC indicate tire check icon. I only repair the puncture tire when I find time, during weekend else I will continue to drive. for repair I only request to patch from inside, NEVER uses insert cos its dangerous as may cos tire to explore when traveling high speed or heat up. (I had that experience during motorcycle touring) inner patching its more expensive but its proven and robust.

S'pore is really small and safe places to be worry about tire puncture issue. You will never be stuck on e-way, flag taxi or phone to your dearest friend just a phone call away.

I got 6 punctures on my bicycle in the last 2 months. I still don't carry pump or tube. either I flag a taxi or push to nearby bicycle shop.

Sometimes i wonder where all these nails come from. Like what you say you won't notice it until you inspect your tires or when your tire pressure is slowly leaking away.

The only 'incident' i have is maybe 2 or 3 years ago i ran over something i didn't see on the road. It was at night. Within a min there is massive loss of tire pressure on one of my front tires and i have problem steering the car straight. I immediately move off to a small road to inspect and by then all the pressure has escaped. Lucky i have a spare tire and i performed my virgin tire change. I followed the manual and it took about 15 mins. My hands were dirty and i was sweaty but still managed to continue my journey. The following week i got a new tire.

Like what wobbles say imagine this happen on NSH. I will cua sai.
