I was wondering whats the ideal tyre specifications for a 17" rims?
17/225/45 or 17/225/40?

it's supposed to be 225/45/17 although there are ppl who will put 215/45/17 for the 316 and 318......

Sumhow or rather my back end rubs..i think. DInt have problems before then after switching...it rubs...

hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

is it possible to fir 225/40/17??

I thought it is 215/45/R17 for the E36 and 225/45/R17 for the E47.

hmmmmm...my ride is the E36..
with 215..the ride is like "chattering" then chnaged to 225..all is well but the rear rubs...

hmmppph

4 potter has got 195/55/15 so if u work it out, it will be 215/45/17. As for the 6 potter, the tyre size is 205/55/15 so it work out to be 225/45/17.

rubbing might be casued by wrong camber..

my rubbing only happens at the rear...so the camber can be adjusted?

Could be due to the offset for your rims. If minor rubbing, u can consider rolling your fender at Ah Lye's place (Check workshop folder). Got mine done in 30mins for $50. Now take 4 passenger behind also no worries.

T6,

I was wondering how offsets are "made" for rims?
This thing always left me baffled..sorry for so many questions..
Thank you in advance

The offset is designed in the rim. Positive offet means that the mounting flange (the part that meets your hub) is on the outside half of the rim thickness. Negative is on the inside.

If your tyres rub besides using the same size, it can also be due to the profile of the tyre. Bridgestone and Falken have "squarer" shoulders while german tyres are rounder. Another slightly round tyre is Bridgestone SO-2. Gotta slowly look see to check the problem. If all else fails, Ah lye is your best bet...

Yeah talking bout round shoulders ..currently my front tyres are on POtenza G3 its a squared shaped tyre while the rear ones are not sure but its from Bridgestone too and it has a rounder shoulder and that could be causing the rubbing.

I was thinking of changing to BFGoodrich or Falken Azenis as I noticed both are having squared shoulders..

What dya tink?
