upgrading of wheels

A good Saturday morning to everyone!

I will be receiving my new ride (523i) sometime this week and have the intention to trade in the 17" wheels and upgrade to 18". The main reason is that I want to retain my current tyres which is less than 1000km. I was told by the sales guy that I can only use continental wheels in order not to void the warranty. Could anyone confirm this.

Thank You and have a good weekend

FG

Re: upgrading of wheels

17inch tires...cannot fit 18inch.....you have to trade in ur 17inch together with tires and buy a new 18inch tires

your salesguy is talking crap...please tell us who is his name.....

theres so many bmws running on different types and brands of tires... does it mean all of them has no warranties?

Re: upgrading of wheels

Sorri for the confusion. I will be retaining my current 18" tyres, trade in the stock 17" rims and tyres of the 523 for the new 18" rims.

Re: upgrading of wheels

The 5 can handle up to 20" rims.... why go 18 when you can go 20.... ask the experts, Terry and Bobby....

It gives the car a more muscular stance BUT the downside is the cost of the tyres....

As for warranties and tyres, not related. Plus if you value comfort, you'd want to get rid of the run flats asap...... If your driving is done mainly in Singapore, not too much of an issue not using the run flats.... Alternatively, you can purchase a spare tyre kit to fit in the boot, about $500/set.....

BMW claim the newer generation runflats are better than the previous ones but still, I don't think it will match the comfort of non-run flats.....

Try it, you'll love it!!!

Re: upgrading of wheels

The main reason for 18" is so that I can re-used my current tyres (CSC II) which is less than 2 months old, a waste if they have to go together with my present ride. Anyway how much can I get from the trade-in of the stock 17"?

Re: upgrading of wheels

the 5 series with stiffer suspension can handle 22inch

Re: upgrading of wheels

Trading in new 17" rims back to PML will only net u a paltry sum. Call outside workshops, listed in our resources page, to see what is your current rim market value. Another opinion is to post a sale in our forum.

Cheers!

Re: upgrading of wheels

Tks for all the advises. Still have a couple of days to make a decision. Most likely will forgo the current set of tyres and go straight to 19" rim & tyre set.

Re: upgrading of wheels

The 172 style is quite nice... that's 19".... the M5 and M6 style rims are also quite nice.....

If budget not an issue, PS2s are quite good... also heard that CSC3s are good too....

I'm on Toyo T1R and its surprisingly quiet and grippy.... once its been run in....
