Hi all,...this is regarding the 17-character code found on all BMW cars...usually starts with "WBA......" - apparently, there are some decoder that will tell you where the car was made, its options, etc..etc...just by keying this 17-charater code ...anyone knows where this can be found?

Use mine as an example: WBA WL72 030 PZ84188

W = Made in Germany
B = BMW
A = Manufacturing division (M cars are labelled as WBS instead)

WL72 denotes the series and body type.

0 denotes restrain system

3 is a check digit

0 denotes European model

P denotes the manufacture year

Z denotes manufacturing plant (which is Regensburg for mine)

84188 is the manufacturing sequence number

Re: "VIN" decoder for BMW cars

Thanks for the advice....however, the data does not seem accurate after keying in the 17-character....it listed my car model as E46 (I am driving an E90)...and listed as "unknown" for manufacture year...what gives????
