What petrol best for E90 320i

Hi,

just curious as to what you guys pump for your car. And if you tried the various grades (octane rating) or brands, care to share your experience? And which fuel should you avoid? Of course all these are your own opinions, no right or wrong

Shell V-power - can feel drive smoother
Shell 98 - ok only but looking for cheaper better alternatives.
No experience with other brands

Thanks for the advice. I didn't know you can use cooking oil in petrol engines. Maybe you have tried but no thanks. Lets keep this thread to the subject.

relax ok shaun.....use 98 and above..wun go wrong.

recently i switched my cars to vpower again after coming down to 98. i clocked them over 3 tanks. on the gti the vpower gained me 55km more. n i pay about 10 bucks more than 98. comes out to about the same in terms of mileage/$ saved.

so i will stick to vpower from now.....better smoother for same $ spent per mile.

chill lah, dude. it's a monday and everybody hates mondays.

there have bee quite a few threads on this subject, and everybody has tried to be objective.

the theory - the fresher the petrol is, the better. and by 'fresher', i mean from the refinery to the pump. cos petrol RON level tends to decrease the longer it is kept. or at least that's what my platoon mate in the oil industry says.

Sorry to sound so stiff on a Monday morning. Chilling.... haha. Anyway, when I tried coming down from V-power to 98, the "unsmoothness" can really be felt. I always feel that my car has got something not right so now it is spending time with PML service center. Am driving a courtesy car which drives so much better. Back to the topic, has anyone tried other brands beside Shell? For me, it is just convenience since there are so many Shell kiosks in Bukit Timah area

for me, spc.

1. prefer to get cashback immediately. not like the other petrol companies' loyalty points programmes.

2. freshest petrol. even shell and esso buys from spc and then mixes in their additives. every now and then i'll dump in my own stp fuel additive myself.

i have pumped caltex gold for a yr, but recently made a swith to esso 98. Esso 98 certainly gave me more mileage and the engine felt smoother.

all petrol are about the same somehow....at least for me....no diff....
but if u r going up North for a long drive, use v-power or caltex Techron....it would make yr car feels like you have just changed yr engine oil !!

JUST BE LIGHT ON YR ACCELERATION and drive more smoothly and you can have more mileage for yr petrol ( no matter what you choose!!!)

but if u r going up North for a long drive, use v-power or caltex Techron....it would make yr car feels like you have just changed yr engine oil !!

SPC98 most responsive worst mileage; SPC95 crap. Vpower smoothest acceleration and best mileage. Knife brand best fried - crispiest chicken wing and yes i have tried and even grilled and baked and BBQed.

I use Shell 95 for all my cars. No diff I find between Shell 98, V power, etc. Mileage more or less the same though.

malaysia's vpower!! cheap, near and good. petronas is quite far in. if not i'll pump petronas super unleaded. hahaha

driving 520i which uses the same engine as the E90 320i and I feel Shell 98 fits my needs well. V-Power feels more shiok but I will pump only when Shell gives discount (such as when Ferrari wins an F1 race)

I uses mobil 8000. Tried 5000 before and felt there was lag when you step on the pedal.

i've never owned a 4cyl car like the E90 320, but my past experience on the 6 cyl engines is that after switching from Shell 98 to Esso/Mobil 8000, I feel smoother acceleration. At first, my FC suffered (jumped from 12.4l/100km to 13.7l/100km) but after a couple of weeks, my FC came back down and even improved a little.

Now i only pump at Esso. Their loyalty points scheme works alot better for me too. Just that I miss out on those toy ferrari models...

I'm pumping Caltex Silver (95 Ron), giving me close to 9km/L.
How does that sound? I've tried 98 Ron but not much diff in terms of mileage.

IMO, 98Ron will protect your engine since there'll be less"knocking". Read abt this from an article some time back.....can't remember source though
