What should I do? Advice needed?

Hi bro

I just collected my E90 three weeks ago and today when I was washing my car in the open, I realised that there is a "spot" on the front bonnet.::yikess: : I am going to PML which I am sure they will offer me a repainting job however I think it will remove the new car smell from my car. :( Can I ask for a replacement of the whole bonnet? At least the new car smell will not be lost. What should I do? Have you guy encounter such thing before?

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

I am not even sure if PML will give u a free repainting job... Anyway, new car smell will go away sooner or later. Call pml to ask for the free paint job 1st then decide from there

Good luck :)

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

if they remove the bonnet, respray it, and then fix it back, the new car smell would not be gone:)

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

If I'm not mistaken, the new car smell is posionous? I'm not sure PML will respray yr bonnet 3 wks after you've taken delivery of yr vehicle...

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

How bad is the spot? Is it discolouration or something else?

Send it back to PML and they will be able to advice you, I doubt they will repspray the bonnet.

I had a similar experience with my ride a year back and there were patches on the lacquer coat and these patches only became visible when you park in the sun. After writing a few emails, PML sort of polish it for me after I convinced them the patches were caused by the plastic covering they used while the car was in transit in the workshop. Anyway the patches came back again and again and they offered to respray the clear coat lacquer. Anyway i just gave up and decided to live with it.

Maybe PML maybe able to "polish" off the spot.

Hi MySnergy

Went to PML and they call it "fish eye" and they are willing to respray the bonnet but I am not very happy with it. And they also found out that the interior carpet is too small so they have to relay the whole carpet. PML told me they have to order the carpet and will let me know when to do the installation and respray.

But how can it happen to a brans new car? Where is the quality check from BMW? And after respray, the new car smell is gone. And the paint is not the orginal from BMW. What should I do? I am very unhappy with the whole thing. Should I ask for compensation? Who should I go go to for help? Can I go to CASE?

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

Wah ! What on earth de, like dat also can. But wait lah brother, hold the bus. Put it this way if it was unintentional and they are willing to respray for u, let them do it lah. get yr car sprayed first then see hows the results first. if wanna go back to PML and KPKB still not too late. If the respray is done by PML, they shld be able to give u the exact paint colour. You wont get different shades especially when yr car is 3 weeks old nia.

After u had the car resprayed, I suggest u go for paint protection system....then your car will not only be kilat kilat but also no fish eye or bird's end product what so ever can spoil your paintwork. But do remember to do us proud hor, dont settle for nothing and by all means make some noise to the PML management n get a decent n acceptable reply failing which I am sure all the HIADEEs here can advise on the next appropriate action to take. Good luck

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

Thanks Ah Beng, cannot sleep men:furious: . Wake up early to check for any replies. Does any one has the email of the CEO in BMW Asia? I am thinking of writing to him directly after all he need to know this kind of standard also can:screwedu: . PML is just a agent so they do not care so much. What you guy think?

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

Hi Henry1515,

Get it resprayed by PML and make them guarantee you the quality of the paintwork done. Do a PPS to seal the paintwork and it should be ok.

Make them give you a coutesy car while the job is being done and I must say these quality issues happen to me, so quite frustrating and bloody waste of time going to PML every week, maybe they build their cars in South Africa, so you get carpet that is too small?

Write a letter to PML to voice your unhappiness.

Take it easy and stress free lah bro, you should enjoy your ride instead.

Thanks My Snergy

I have send BMW Asia an email and see what they say. The problem is they have not get back to me offically. And how can they let me wait and wait. :furious:

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

i have not seen this mark but to be perfectly honest, you were lucky to be offered a respray.

water marks can form on unprotected paintwork in just 24 hours and certainly, a lot more can happen to the paintwork/clear coat within a span of 3 weeks. the onus is really on the owner to do his own pre-delivery inspection before taking over the car.

if you really like your new car smell so much. just reschedule this respray at a later date and keep driving in the meantime until the smell disappears.

also, BMW factory paintwork sucks. i've had PML respray one of my panels and the quality was so much better than what the BMW factory could produce so i wouldn't lose sleep over this.

lastly, as disappointed as you are with your car, at least take heart that PML is willing to help you remedy it to the best of their abilities. there was a time when i've done a fair bit of table banging. but i've now learnt that being on good terms with your CSA and other back-room staff is a much more sensible way to go about getting your problems addressed.

just my 2 cents worth.

Re: What should I do? Advice needed?

maybe im being paranoid but i think them "realising" the carpet is too small could be a cover up for taking a long time to do your paint job...happened to a friend of mine whom they told needed to wait a week because they found "some other" problem. in the end he found out from someone inside that his car has been sitting tight for 4 days!!!

just guessing though...i know they deal with like a 100 car in/out DAILY..just make sure the top-level gives you an answer

Agree... there's not point losing your composure (and sleep) or spending time on strongly worded emails.

After all, what you really want is to straighten out your car issues, not reorganise the company. So be creative - a little charm never hurts!

Thanks everyone for your comments, it does make me feel better. But for all the E90 owners out there, it seems that paint defects in the bonnet is quite common and nearly every E90 had at least a couple of minor imperfections. I read this in the BMW CAR magazine(July 2006 issue) and it is on page 92. For your information, my car defects has not settle yet. let see how long they will take? And I am not sure are they waiting for my temper to cool down? But I fully agreed that no point lossing my cool and sleep.
