When changing AT solenoids or valvbe body must drop

Question for those bros who have changed their AT solenoids and/or valve body - did the ws need to drop the whole transmission or is it just a case of opening the AT sump cover and replacing the solenoids/valve body from below (like in pic that bro Aaron posted)? I'm asking because a sponsor's ws told me must drop whole transmission :whatthe:

You mean all the mechanical gear?

No need to drop whole transmission - open plug, drain, open cover, take out mechatronic assembly and replace the solenoids ....

Change the filter along the way .....

It takes a lot more effort for the WS to drop the tranny. Perhaps there are other work to be done eg. clutch pack, TC, etc.

No need at all

Thanks to all who responded. Eaxctly what I thought too. I think they were describing to me complete AT overhaul coz downtime estimated was 6 days. But I specifically asked how about conservative management & just change the solenoids/valve body from below, but the response was cannot be done without dropping whole transmission.

How is your GB current condition? Car still can drive?
You should get opinion from another WS.

Re: When changing AT solenoids or valvbe body must drop

Yes still can drive, problem is the classic jerking just before full stop but is intermittant. Was considering to replace solenoids when doing next ATF change so was asking around. Yup think I will try BVO after they reopen.

The solenoids change should not need to drop the transmissions.

I wonder why the workshop says so.

Re: When changing AT solenoids or valvbe body must drop

Followed bro Sean's advice, gave some constructive feedback, in turn they responded most promptly and apologetically, everything's cool, case closed.

Whether customer or workshop, always best if we learn from one another and improve. That way the community grows together!

U r lucky!!!!

What if u simply follow their recommendation and over haul the gear box which will cost u a lot of $$$$$$ and 6 long days where in fact u only need half a day to change only the solenoids at only less than $1K.

I believe we should only maintain our car and change the parts when needed.

It's not fair for us as owners to spend extra money and change un necessary parts for no good reason!!!

That's why I posted all my experiences and I help saved many owners thousands of dollars.

Re: When changing AT solenoids or valvbe body must drop

Bro Aaron, where did you get your part number for the solenoids from? I try RealOEM but they got no peekture of solenoids - only for the whole mechatronic unit and no part corresponding to the #24 347 894 132 - which is the part # visible on the box in your photo.
