Read today's ST review on the IS250 by Dr. Winston Lee?
Well, for the reading pleasure of our overseas forumers, some excerpts:
..... The Germans should take notice because the Japanese luxury upstart has just launched a formidable weapon for the junior executive market.
The new Lexus IS250 is aimed squarely at the BMW 3-series, the market leader in the luxury sports segment it pioneered some 30 years ago .....
For starters, the styling is spot on. Following a theme first seen in the Lexus GS300, the new IS250 has taut character lines with bulging fenders. Most would agree it looks more stylish and muscular than its bigger sibling.
And of even more importance to Lexus is the fact that, parked side by side with its archrival from Munich (the BMW 3-er), it is the IS250 which has the greater presence.
Lexus is obsessed with quality, and nowhere is this more evident than in the interior.
The cabin has a plush look and a feel of luxury quite unexpected of this class of car.
The leather upholstery and plastics are top grade .....
Coupled with the tenacious grip and well-sorted suspensions, the IS250 is extremely agile and stable .....
With almost identical pricing in many overseas markets, the 218 bhp BMW 325i is usually regarded as the logical competitor the IS250 has to match.
Unfortunately, the 325i costs $33,000 more than the IS250 (Luxury variant) in Singapore. The model closest in price here is the 320i, which has ONLY a 150bhp 2-litre four-cylinder engine.
As expected, it (the 320i) is comprehensively out-gunned by the Lexus in both performance and refinement.
The new IS250 has given Lexus a genuine contender in the ever expanding market for sporty junior executive cars.
Competitvely priced and luxuriously finished to Lexus' quality standards, this model is detined to secure a significant share of sales in its class. Together with the GS300, it proves that Lexus finally has its own design language and "DNA".
Cheers
