Which is better - KNN or ITG

Drop in is as in changing the air fliter only and the stock airbox remains unchanged??

Re: Which is better - KNN or ITG

I would personally recommend K&N.

I had the ITG filter, and trying to find the oil to clean it was a bitch. It uses a vicious oil which is VERY sticky, and almost impossible to find in SG. I've looked around for quite some time and failed. Can order from overseas..but..the costs can buy me half a new filter. :|

I was using K&N before, both drop in and cone filter... but seriously, not much difference.

I lost the link that WhiskyTango posted...it rated K&N as the best. In terms of airflow and filtration. It did not have ITG on the list, but i would believe that K&N would outperform it.

Somemore you clean the K&N panel everytime you feel like it.

Thinking of drop in filter as I am not going to compromise increase in noise level. Which do you recommend for drop in filter? KNN or ITG and their respective cost?

Here is the link to the thread. http://www.bmw-sg.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2153

And the direct link to the filter comparison website. http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

Ryan, its Apexi filter tat compliments the highest power gains and the best filtration.

K&N is on par with HKS in terms of power gain and K&N surpasses HKS & Blitz in filtration.

Now, Iam using back K&N open pod filter. More torque than Blitz. Street driving is much better.

Will try this on NS and coming track day.

Cool man :)

Still remember the day you and alan help me install the CAI?

Hahaha...car became a 330 that night...after 2 hours...a loud cow.

eric,

you means kNN cone has better torque than Blitz ?

So which one should I used for the coming track day ? Alan, what's your view ?

thx

Really missed the blitz growl on my former ride though now its the spooling sound Im addicted. kekeke...

Just wondering why Apexi dun mfg bigger filters like the size of K&N and Blitz.

Tats wat I have experienced. If you read my thread link as pasted above, I wrote a short review.

Now, my turbo boost spike to 1.7bar again with K&N.

open cone means louder right?

Yes because its open pod and without the airbox. So generally there is no insulation of the induction sound.

But if you were to proceed tat mod direction, its recommended to do a heat shield. Tis is to prevent the engine heat from the filter area as HOT air means less density which has less oxygen for combustion.

However, if you would like to keep the stock air box intact but change just the filter element. Maybe you would like to consider an additional inlet duct(3" rubber hose) to the box?

2nd option has been done by a few bros here. Results are positive.

Sorry bro... dun have pics to show.

Try picture tis...

A 2.5" or 3" hole is being cored beneath the air box.
Insert the 2.5" or 3" duct into the hole. (air will be blowing directly onto the filter element when car is moving thus creating ram air effect)

The other end of the hose is secured near the foglamp area where an opening is available. Better with a funnel end (bigger than 3") where it captures/scoops more air and forces air into the hose.

Piggy will be able to help u.

Haha, this was my mod.. before my family sold the car.

It's really the same concept, except i used the stock box instead of an open cone concept.

Some dude is driving the car with it now..somewhere in New Zealand...whahahaha

Okay, this is a custom made DIY airbox mod done by me, after being tired of trying all sorts of cold air intakes/cones which were just too noisy. This mod uses the stock airbox, i have drilled a 2" hole and connected a heat resistant tube to snake down to face the front of the car. Sealed with silicon to reduce leaks. The intake inlet is underneath the foglight area. I've custom cut away the grill to allow more air to enter the inlet. At the entrance of the tube, is a specially cut funnel to smoothen airflow and direct the high pressure air into the tube. The funnel is strapped tightly to the cut grill at the front of the car with cable ties so that it's ultra secure. I've driven in bad rain and floods and no problems as the water can still flow out from the airbox. There is a hole at the bottom of the airbox to facilitate this.

I did that on my previous galant too. Same effect, and cheap too. Just drop in filter and air con duct and DIYwill do the job.
