Why do people buy M5 in Singapore?

After paying almost double what you pay for a 520i, M5 owners for 95% of the times drive at the same speed as a 520i and pay higher road tax...agreed that it looks better but i can bet you can make a 520i look like an m5 for about 20-25K max

Why draw such an analogy?? A Cherry QQ or 20 year old COE car or brand new Ferrari will probably be traveling about the same speed as a 520i too right??

In my POV, it is simply this - If they can afford it, they can flaunt it. If cannot afford it, just spend 20-25k to bluff it... but don't get pissed when pple say it is a fake M5.

Your analogy, is as good as saying WTF are pple buying Lambo, Ferrari, McLaren, etc when most of the time they drive at same speed as a Japanese car. IMO, if they can afford it, flaunt it, who gives a fcuk about driving speed.

then another will ask why need SUV in spore road ... where is the countrysides and mountains?

why buy rolex where seiko can tell accurate time ...

Simply because it is an M5. I would be getting 1 if I can afford it. 4 door luxury sedan with the power to go with it when you need it. The feeling that you can just pull away is priceless.

But i think that the 535's performance numbers are pretty closer to the M5's yah? 0-100 time not far off...

If strictly about performance numbers - There is no comparison of a mid-4s to a mid 5s for 0-100kmph. Numbers may not be far off (almost 1s or >1s difference) but the gap/distance is... will get worst once it continues to 0-400m. Just IMO.

ooopps i'm wrong...its 3.6s for the M5 and 5.5s for the 535 so quite different.

your topic starts with 520i, now you are talking about 528i. so what is it in ur mind? 520 is still a 520, nth compares to M5. try picking up speed with the M5 and u know. although in sg, speed doesnt matters, but pick up speed does.

IMO 6.3s compared to a mid-4s is no where close really. There is a huge difference between 4.4/4.5s and 6.3s... trust me it is very very huge. Difference in Adrenaline rush too.

Hi N54toN47, don't get it all mixed up as both are Official Numbers.

0-60mph is not equal to 0-100kmph while 0-100kmph is equal to 0-62mph

Therefore 0-60mph is 3.7s (to be exact is 96.56kmph) while 0-100kmph is 4.4s. It takes another 0.7s to reach 62mph (100kmph).

Therefore in terms of 0-100kmph (0-62mph), 'BMW FOREVER' is correct, it is at 4.4s. The 3.7s is for 0-60mph (0-96.56kmph).
