WTB: E34 5er, advice needed.

Hi guys,

Am in the market for an E34 5er. Have seen a few units, but the best so far is from a single owner having run about 150K KM. The car looks great in and out but I need to know if there is anything to look out for as I've never purchased an old continental car before.

Any heads ups and pointers would be greatly appreciated. At the same time, if you have an E34 to pass on, do PM me.

Cheers,
Saify

Re: WTB: E34 5er, advice needed.

The e34 is among the strongest most durable bmws ever made. Since its a heavy car the usual suspension parts need renewal from time to time, and the gearbox is also another replacement item. But e34 spares are surprisingly affordable and available, and a properly maintained one, (by one of the excellent independent specialists) drives like a dream, and feels the most modern and up to date of all the classics. Indeed, its still a quiet car compared to modern cars....downsides? FC (7-7.5km/l) and performance.......mine is a 1991 24v, done 350,000+k's......Interesting that successive model's real world FC is also about the same (e39,e60) though these cars are quicker. And body weights are similar too......

Re: WTB: E34 5er, advice needed.

hi bro,

E34 has a well known problem and that is the instrument cluster circuit board being "fried"....check to see that all electrical items are working.

some 5 years ago when i had my E34 525, i was part of the E34 Fanatics forum based in UK. not sure if they are still around, do google for it.

having said that, my E34 with mtec suspension upgrades handled extremely well and the IL6 was silky smooth.....definitely a bang for buck !

Good Luck in your search !

Re: WTB: E34 5er, advice needed.

Mine is a End 1991 24v, done 340,000+k's. A Good performance Car. Very stable car while going high speed. Do take note take the engine hunting problem. It may due to air flow meter which is quite hard to get good ones in the market. Even New ones(Abt S$500) does not suit our E34 which i had tried. N got to find used part to replace.

Re: WTB: E34 5er, advice needed.

e34 has 2 models with different engines... i think one is grossly under powered.... the other one is a 24v one... so go for the 24v one is better.... i know coz i owned a e34 with 12v or something before...
