Reposting a new WTB thread since I decided to expand my search options. Old thread was here. Ideally, looking for as stock as possible for the cars since I intend to fix up the car as i go along. So prefer those with renewed COE or at least a good 4-5 years left. A mechanically sound powerplant and structural integrity is more important to me than anything else.
If none is available, I will have to settle for modded versions. My profession generally doesn't encourage a flashy example but I should be able to get away with an understated sleeper if you know what I mean.
E36 318is - M42 / M44 (MT):
Seen a few examples and have identified at least one possible purchase. Don't mind looking at any other worthy examples.
E36 320i - M50 / M52 (MT):
Again, seen a few examples. Still searching.
E34 520i - M50 (I6, 24v):
Fresh search.
MT doesn't seem to be available so will have to settle for AT. Chances are I will swap the AT for a MT if I can find all the required components.
E39 520i - 2.0l / 2.2l (1996-2000):
Fresh Search.
Personally, a 2.0l at 148bhp is good enough for me. Prefer not to pay garmen more for a 2.2l. If I'm gonna pay the garmen more, might as well go all the way and swap to a M5 powerplant. Again, if it makes sense, I will swap for a MT. Not sure how easily this can be done given the additional electronics involved.
Unfortunately, I'm not keen on later models and a real sucker for the E34. Strangely, the E30 doesn't appeal to me. As for the E39, I read that it's a rather good example of fine bimmer engineering and a worthy successor to the E34.
For the above models, I'm looking for a good example; one that I can drive on and on and on and renew COE and keep driving. For affectionate owners, you can be pretty sure, I'm not looking to scrap the car as long as it's running well.
I'm not in a hurry but will like to secure a deal and complete transaction by year's end. Willing owners, please PM me. Will greatly appreciate any advise from fellow forumers here on my hunt and what to look out for.
Thanks.
Nic.
