BMW to buy Italian De Tomaso sports car brand?

Automotive News reports Italy’s Industry Ministry saying that BMW is currently negotiating to purchase the Italian sports car brand De Tomaso and the talks is expected to finish in October. Founded in 1959, this Italian brand is well known for producing sports and luxury vehicles and they also previously owned Maserati.

“We had confirmation that talks with possible Italian partners [who would buy the structural assets] and with BMW continue,” said Giuseppe Anfuso, Turin secretary of the UILM trade union.

BMW has not released a statement about  this yet but back i n May, a spokesperson for the German brand clearly said that they have no interest in purchasing the De Tomaso brand. Stay tuned for more news about this in the following months.
