Have you heard of M-town? BMW’s city of dreams for fans of high-performance machines and lovers of all things M. Well, this fabled showcase has made a quick visit to our sunny island and brought along with it one of Munich’s finest in the form of the limited edition M3 CS. If you only have a minute to read, here are 5 key takeaways.
5 key takeaways about the new M3 CS.
- Limited production run with only 5 allocated for Singapore
- Twin-Turbo’d S58 3-litre Straight-6 pushing out 550 horsepower. 40 more than the Competition and equivalent to the CSL. Maximum boost upped from 1.7 to 2.1 bar.
- Further developed chassis tuning with bespoke dampers, auxiliary springs, anti-roll bars and camber settings.
- xDrive equipped, allowing for a 0-100km/h time of 3.4 seconds. 0.3 seconds quicker than the CSL.
- Enhanced aesthetics with CSL-esque touches and plenty of carbon fibre used throughout.
Essentially a CSL for the thinking family man, this “Competition Sport” has a CSL-matching 550 horsepowers delivered by a boosted-up 3-litre straight-six hooked up to all four wheels. Allowing this lightened special to rocket up to 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds, even quicker than its CSL sibling. Top speed? 304 km/h. Maximum boost? 2.1bar. Plenty, I reckon.
Visually, the Competition Sport has been graced with numerous CSL-esque aesthetics, from the front grill inserts to the exposed carbon treatment on the bonnet. And with its red-outlined blacked-out CS badging, there’s no mistaking this M3 for anything lesser.
The engineers at M have also gone to town with our favourite lightening material when putting this M3 on a diet.
The roof? Carbon fibre.
Bonnet? Carbon fibre.
Front splitter? Carbon fibre.
Front air intakes, exterior mirror caps, rear diffuser, rear spoiler, centre console, shift paddles, M bucket seats and interior trim strips? Carbon fibre, carbon fibre, carbon fibre, carbon fibre, carbon fibre, carbon fibre, carbon fibre, carbon fibre.
Yes, there is a lot of carbon fibre.
That said, even though so much carbon fibre is used throughout the car, the front multi-point strut brace retains its metal construction. Carbon fibre here would have been the icing on the cake!
While BMW has yet to announce the actual production figures, what is certain is that this M3 CS will definitely have a limited production run with only 5 units allocated for Singapore. Want one? You better be quick.
The M-Town party didn’t stop with the M3 CS of course as BMW Asia also announced the local availability of the also-limited-edition M2 Purists’ Edition. Meaning to say, 3-pedals, 6 forward gears and a limited-slip differential.
Of course, M-Town’s not only limited to the latest and greatest because situated right at the entrance was a selection of M machines from the past. Be still my beating heart.
With a beautifully curated selection of young and old machines to indulge our senses, M-Town was quite a sight for fans of the Ultimate Driving Machine.
Thank you, BMW for giving us early access to your block party! Please come back again next year!
