MINI Electric Convertibles to be Available by 2025

Even before its official confirmation, MINI intends to build electric convertibles by 2025. The modern MINI Cooper will end its production by 2024. Last year, every fifth Mini sold was a convertible. Therefore, the premium open-top continues to be the popular choice among MINI customers. MINI will be producing MINI cabriolet electric convertibles with a new version of the UKL platform of BMW Group for front-wheel drive vehicles.

The UKL platform, together with the “Power of Choice,” will be ending its production soon. Therefore, future MINI, similar to BMW models, will use an electric-first architecture. Some MINI electric convertible cars will also be for manufacturing with the Chinese partner Great Wall. Furthermore, the new MINI electric Cabrio is close enough to an all-electric future of the British marquee. The British brand already mentioned their plans of becoming fully electric by 2030.

MINI targets to see fully electric vehicles for more than 50 percent of its sales by 2027. Advancing to an all-electric l.ine-up seems right for MINI, which makes it return to its ‘urban conquerer’ status that made it famous in the first place.

The next all-electric MINI turns out to be the MINI GP in 2022. Additionally, MINI will be producing the next generation of the midsize Countrymen crossover with a fully electric model in 2023. The German automaker will start the production of the Countryman in Leipzig by 2023. It will most likely be sharing its platform in the upcoming BMW iX1 and X1 models also.
