Unveiled to us yesterday by MINI Asia and Eurokars Habitat is the newly facelifted 2020 Mini Countryman.
Mini’s chunkiest, most versatile (and chonkiest) model has received a number of revisions to bring it bang up to date against its even chonkier rivals.
The frontal aesthetics have been redesigned with bolder and more upright visual cues with LED headlights and fog-lights now coming in as standard equipment. Exterior colors have also been updated with new shades to choose from. The color you see here is “Sage Green”, a rather interesting shade which looks suspiciously more like a greyish blue to our eyes.
The Countryman also now has the lovely Union Jack tail lamps as seen on its smaller siblings. It does sport its own distinctive look with the Union Jack motif created by reversing the lit up areas instead.
New Piano black exterior trim is also now available but comes as standard on the Cooper S variant (We prefer chrome).
Also on the Cooper S are a set of redesigned 19″ alloys which look like pistons going round and round.
Inside, the changes are more than skin deep. The Countryman’s analogue dials have now been phased out and in their place sits a digital cockpit display with a 5-inch colour screen. As always, this new display moves in accordance when you adjust your steering, and with a nice matt coating on the screen, reflections and glare are minimised to an almost E-paper-like finish.
As standard across all Countrymans, they now come with an 8.8-inch Navigation System with Mini Connected.
As always, because it’s a Mini, a range of interior trims, surfaces and accessories are available to choose from.
As of today, there are 2 models for you to choose from. The 136hp Cooper Countryman at S$161,888 and the 178hp Cooper S Countryman at S$180,888. While the Cooper S is the default choice for most petrolheads and internet commentators, with close to $20,000 in savings in the purchase price and being more economical to run, our pick between these two, is the 1.5-litre sibling. We think it looks better too, in a less-is-more way.
