BMW Expands Neue Klasse Line-Up to Chinese Market

CEO Oliver Zipse spoke with Automotive News, sharing BMW’s focused strategy for the Chinese market. Leveraging the Neue Klasse electric platform, BMW is crafting vehicles ideally suited to the region’s preferences. The vibrant team at BMW Design Shanghai is at the heart of this initiative. They are diligently working to infuse exclusive designs and innovative features into the China-bound Neue Klasse models. While keeping the full picture under wraps, Zipse affirmed the brand’s deep commitment to tailoring their iconic offerings for China.

This strategy isn’t new for BMW; the brand has consistently curated offerings for the Chinese market. Think long-wheelbase models and even an i3 electric sedan inspired by the 3 Series. This trend continues with the initiation of Neue Klasse production at the Shenyang plant in 2026. Besides, BMW’s futuristic series will also roll out from their new Debrecen facility in Hungary. This also includes the established San Luis Potosi factory in Mexico, bringing state-of-the-art designs to global fans.

Automotive News pointed to the 3 Series Neue Klasse as the pioneer of the new architecture. However, some insiders beg to differ, directing the spotlight towards the BMW iX3 (NA5) instead. This electric trailblazer will debut in Debrecen in 2025, with the NA0 BMW i3 hot on its heels the following year. The NAxx naming convention carries the banner for the Neue Klasse lineage.

BMW promises a game-changing enhancement with the Neue Klasse. They’re touting up to a 30% boost in range compared to its existing electric vehicle (EV) lineup. This remarkable leap comes from a revamped battery flaunting higher energy density, aerodynamic refinements, and more potent electric motors.

Charging times are also set to improve dramatically, with the introduction of an 800-volt electrical system facilitating a 30% faster charge than present EV models. This puts high charging currents into play, ensuring that your Neue Klasse vehicle powers up swiftly and gets you back on the road in record time.

Prepare for impressive releases from the BMW Neue Klasse roster between 2025 and 2027.
