The BMW M5 CS is a real monster on the track, and that’s given already. We had a decent notion of just how quick and capable this car is. And it’s just amazing what BMW engineers were able to do with this unique M vehicle edition. But one question remains, would the M5 CS be a good match against one of the most capable electric cars out there today?
Yes, we mean the Porsche Taycan Turbo. Not Stuttgart’s higher trim and more powerful EV, though, the Turbo S. Instead, it’s the more laid-back version of the Turbo with a distinct set of capabilities and specifications. It carries two electric motors, which produces up to 680 horsepower and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque. On the other hand, the predominant Turbo S generates 760 horsepower and 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) of torque. Regardless of the comparison, the Taycan Turbo is still a very quick, all-wheel-drive electric car with a lot of torque.
Moving back to our main star – the BMW M5 CS. We already know much about this model and we also know that in terms of weight, it has a bigger edge than Porsche. Just one of the few occasions we can say that BMW is really lighter than a Porsche. Understandable, given the Taycan’s massive batteries. Specifically, the BMW has less power and torque (626 hp and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft), but it is also nearly half a tonne less.
Would you continue to place your bets on the M5 CS? As we’ve learned over the years, Porsches can perform quite unexpectedly, particularly in a straight line. But It’s no secret that the German sports car maker is notorious for being cautious when it comes to making power promises. Can the Taycan Turbo, however, maintain its lead despite the significant weight disadvantage? Well, it seems likely.
