[Video] Behind the Styling of the 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe

The new BMW 2 Series Coupe seems to win the hearts of most fans and enthusiasts compared to the 4 Series. But apparently, it still can’t veer away from online debates when it comes to design. To manage this, the Bavarians designed its production series car with a classic, retro look, matched by distinctive characteristics. This is the first and probably the last for retro-inspired models, making it even more interesting to the BMW community.

In this video, we’ll get to meet the exterior stylist of the 2 Series Coupe. A Mexican-born designer, Jose Casas is also known for his work on the BMW iNext Concept and M Vision NEXT. The guys from BMWBLOG teamed up with Casas to discover more about the new 2 Series Coupe’s design during the BMW official launch event. One of the highlights of their interview is about the controversial design choices made for the 2 Series Coupe. Well, you can say it made a great and interesting discussion.

The 2022 BMW 2 Series Coupe may only just be the second in its generation but it’s the newest in a long series of compact, two-door, 4-seat, small-engine, daily sports cars from BMW. The Bavarians began competing in this segment back in Neue Klasse with the BMW 1600. And they further proved the German brand’s relevance in this line with the iconic BMW 2002. However, this BMW 2 Series could be the first and last iteration of the range.

The exterior styling of the 2 Series sets it apart from the rest of the BMW range. This is thanks to the unique styling cues in its headlights, grille, Hofmeister kink, and taillights. And with a Roundel, the overall design language is completely distinct from anything else. Play the video now to hear the reason for every design choice straight from Casas.
