Fans and enthusiasts of BMW are always anticipating the release of new BMW cars. They’re just as excited to see how much the real-life results measure up to their claims on paper. Power figures are mostly underrated by German manufacturers, leading to exciting dyno results. It applies the same to the BMW M4 Competition. Since its launch, this model repeatedly exceeded expectations in various tests. As a result, people were really looking forward to finding out just how much power the S58 mill makes.
Before working on its upgrade, the guys from RaceChip took one M4 Competition out for a couple of tests. This sets a baseline reading for the car. Therefore, their goal was to see how the engine performs on a dyno first of all and then to possibly weigh it. In the video, it reveals that the figures don’t seem far off from BMW’s claims. Because according to them, the S58 engine under the hood of the M4 Competition rates at 510 PS and 650 Nm of torque.
Meanwhile, the dyno chart resulted to a reading of 542 PS and 670 Nm of torque. These numbers are within the error margin for the BMW M4 Competition, but it is important to note that this is a rear-wheel drive version. Meaning, it comes with less transmission loss compared to the all-wheel drive version. It also scores an impressive power and torque delivery – from around 2,500 RPM, the engine has full torque up until the red line.
When it comes to its weight, it’s only reasonable to get that extra power. According to their measurements, the new M4 Competition weighs 1,820 kilos with a full tank of gas. With a driver, this sports coupe model weighs 1.9 tons, making it considerably heavier than its predecessor.
