Apparently, the E92 is the oddball among all generations of BMW M3, and it is entirely because of its engine. The E92 BMW M3 has a 4.0 liter naturally-aspirated V8 rather than an inline-six, which has powered every other M3 in history except for the E30. That V8 makes the E92 unique, but also creates a divide among the BMW enthusiasts. The question is, is it still worth a buy? According to JayEmm, creator of this video, yes it is.

What makes the free-breathing V8 of the E92 M3 interesting is that it’s both incredible and terrifying. Non-owners though of it as the greatest M3 engine of all for it is a naturally-aspirated V8 that revs past 8,000 rpm and makes the most glorious noise of any M3. Whereas, owners worry as it has a tendency to grenade its rod-bearings consequently ruining itself. Nevertheless, it is still worth getting, according to JayEmm.

Apart from its suicidal tendencies, there are issues present with the E92 BMW M3 such as its lack of low-down power, chunky curb-weight and love it/hate it DCT gearbox. And because of its astonishing engine, incredibly balanced chassis and stunning good looks, driving it quickly is just so undeniably enjoyable– and we are grateful!

Though, JayEmm clearly advises to get the car as early as now if you’re seriously considering getting one. Pointing out that more and more E92 M3s are being bought and modified as the prices of these cars go down as the years go by. Indicating that clean, stock examples are going to skyrocket in value, making them no longer worth it. So if you want one, now is probably a great time to buy. And as soon as you do, make sure to spend the money in getting the bearings replaced. In that way, you know for sure that they’re in good shape, and taking care of your rod-bearings will make them last the entire time you own the car.
